Engineering figured out technology would advance rapidly so the energy savings on a new model would pay for replacing it sooner. So there was no need to have a fridge last longer than 2 to 4 years. This still did not allow for people to plan for an emergency replacement compared to having a known electric bill. Five fridges later, fridges are now efficient and future improvements are minimal, but the compressors and drawers and door seals are still crap. But replacing is still cheaper than running that avocado or puke yellow fridge from your folks house. 4 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 (edited) The lifespan of a modern Reefer / Freezer is is +/- 10 years, even for a good one. Our emergency purchase replacement, bought off the floor due to logistic issues, is already having problems only a few years later. My Grandfather's Sulphur dioxide monitor top bought just after the war ran for better than 20 years. Fifteen years into the house, we are on the third clothes washer, the second dishwasher, second stovetop and looking at the third fridge soon. I have a low end chest freezer in the basement that came from my parents house, has to be at least 25 years old, still going strong. How about building stuff that works and lasts? The anthropogenic "climate change" has been debunked in detail even though the info has been massively suppressed. Edited October 22, 2023 by Rip Snorter Typo 4 Quote
