Harsh!

Harsh, but funny enough I sprayed a fine coffee mist over a surprising square footage of the kitchen table!

I saw a recording of the outtakes of her shows once.  I'd love to see it again.  Can't remember what it was called, but I laughed for weeks after that .

I don't think they had "outtakes".  Screwups, flubs and bloopers, yeah.  But I don't think they took any of them out.    And I agree.  That was one darn funny show.

Angus

They had to take some of them out.

There's a very famous skit. They're trying to do a Mama's Family skit, and Conway keeps telling a story about going to the circus. About the elephant he saw. Siamese elephants. Joined at the trunk.

He'd say a couple of lines, then shut up. They start trying to do the routine again and he pops in with another line, and Carol and Harvey and Lyle are falling apart trying to keep a straight face.

Then at the end of it, Mama asked, "is that little shit finished?"

That didn't go out over the air.

Yes and no, and I do remember how to set up dual-point distributers, and set weights and springs for mechanical advance.

Th 1970 350 V8 put out 275 HP from the factory. With aftermarket tuning (ignoring later smog laws), and even a cam change, porting and polishing the intake and exhaust, and a few other old-time tricks, our goal was to get to 1 HP per cubic inch.

My 2018 Challenger with a 392 cubic inch Hemi puts out 485 HP from the factory and meets all smog requirements. Sure, I could use a computer to tune it just a bit more but the factory just has not left a lot more to get.

I have about 1.25 HP per cubic inch, this is just not possible without computer controls. I have learned to tune by computer and diagnose problems by computer.

This is me collecting data when troubleshooting my 6.0 Chevy truck engine:

And this is me using Excel to plot the collected informations and proving the MAF sensor was out of calibration (The data above idle is off by over 20%):

And this is also me "reading" plugs the old-fashioned way:

And my truck runs sweet today.

Without computer controls, these engines would not put out as much power as they do, would not be as drivable as they are, and would have much worse fuel economy. On the flip side, I am a computer engineer and fixing cars used to not require my skills. And without the ability to apply old-school diagnostics (like actually "reading" plugs), the computer diagnostics will lead a mechanic to the wrong conclusions. Which means replacing the wrong parts.
