Don't think I ever saw the first one, the other three were Blockbuster rentals in the '90s. So none of the above as to 1987.

Nearly 25 years ago a place I  worked at we had a class action suit against them. Maybe $4000 per worker that qualified. For some reason it came in 2 checks. They had already announced that the plant was going to be closing later that year. I used one of the checks to buy a Marlin Cowboy 45-70 as a going away present to myself.

A coworker who was a friend stopped by my house when I wasn't there. He was a great guy but a "little different." When I got home my daughter told me Johnny had stopped by.  Followed by, "Mom knows about the second check."

I was going to “Like” your post but there is no selection for “That guy was a dumbass!” Emoji.

Never in a long marriage has there been any  hidden money, or anguish about purchases either of us have made.  Simply, we have always had both individual and joint accounts.  I would highly reccomend this to any folks starting out (an unlikely demographic here!) It works.

Place I used to work paid pretty good for around here. Overtime after 8. We had a quota, and if we beat the quote of that day, by whatever percentage we beat the quota -like the quota was 100 and we did 120 so that was a 20% over - we got paid that much more for that day.

And every 3 months we got a profit sharing check.

Guy I worked with - he and his wife had expenses. Chunk of land with a house. Two kids in private school. Two cars, two boats, three motorcycles and two four wheelers. So he worked and she worked, and she sold Avon on the side.

But she didn't know about the profit sharing check. That was his play money.

We've got individual accounts, but no secrets either. When Bills are due, I transfer the required funds to her and she pays them on the confuser.

Neither of us care what the other spends money on, as long as the Bills are paid.

I've never understood why guys have to "hide" purchases from their wives, whether guns, car parts, or whatever. That doesn't sound like a healthy relationship to me.

We've only had a joint account for 50 years now.
