I thanked a lady for her service today. I received a nice smile. :)

When a person says "Thank you for your service" how do you respond? I say "You're welcome" but it seems kind of lame.

It depends on if I feel they are sincere. If they are, I say "You're welcome". If they are just saying it because they have to, like at Lowes or Home Depot when I show my ID for the military discount, I may say nothing at all. It depends on the sincerity of the gesture.

My favorite cap is one from my daughter's first command.

Folks thank me for my service, and I say "I'll pass it along."
When they ask, I say, "My daughter is the real cowboy.  She just lets me wear the hat."

I always feel lame even saying thank you for your service.  It seems insincere.  But I can't think of a better way to show respect.
