Cold Weather...Start at noon??

Do any clubs up in the cold weather regions start their shoots later in the day?

Today it was darn cold at 8AM but by noon it was downright comfortable here in New England.....

Just wondering if attendance is better or worse with a warmer start time

Due to the cold weather, we will start our next match at the regular time of 10 am........NEXT APRIL!

Mansfield started at 10 AM today, Was about freezing, felt warmer around noon, got cold again at 3...

If we started at noon, we would still be there shooting under lights.

Shorter days call for shorter/quicker stages B)

Still think 10 AM is better for all concerned schedule wise, with temp relief soon to follow, and could improve attendance by those who don't care for leaving home in the wee small hours or getting a motel room the night before just to avoid a crazy sleep schedule and being loopy when trying to shoot. You do pay at the other end if avoiding driving any distance home in dusk or darkness.

Then again, maybe a winter schedule could be four stages fit into time and temperature that makes a match practical, while better than none for those who want to shoot.

We shot at noon because our day was Sunday & we had an agreement with neighboring churches.  Worked well.  We'd shoot, then have campfire by the lake 'til it got dark.

Cutter's Raiders would shoot a stage then met in the club house to warm up before moving on to the next stage.  Repeat until all five stages were shot.  It would be so cold the Smokers would have to thaw out thier matches in the clubhouse microwave.

A couple hours/couple months? Why split hairs?

I guess Cheyenne isn't a cold weather area. We start at 9:30 throughout the year. The wind is usually lighter in the morning than midday, shoot and get it done.

6 stages and back home by 2:00 pm, scores completed by 4:00 pm. If it's too cold, below 40 and windy we might cancel. Back east the humidity isn't friendly, the mud is a problem if you wait for the afternoon thaw. Walking and running on frozen ground is much safer than moving in the mud. Most folks think the snow is ass deep to a ten foot indian in Cheyenne come winter. We just say that to keep the rif raf out. Snow does happen, it's usually gone in a few days.
