Really? I have lived there and you are wrong! It’s humid and muggy and ice storms in the winter. You can have it if you like that.

Oh, and tell me where in the Carolinas you can go shooting on open land without getting permission or paying a fee.

Same beauty? Really? Drive down the 95 from Virginia to Atlanta. All you see is a wall of trees on each side of the road until you reach an off ramp.

Diamond Springs is about 25 miles from us. We were without power too. We have three generators. Last year we bought a propane Generac to replace a noisy one. I have a Honda 5000 for my trailer. It will run the house when we don't need AC. So we are set.

Does your brother-in-law shoot? There is a range about 10 miles from Diamond Springs. I shoot CAS there sometimes.

He only shoots coyotes & bobcats that kill his chickens.  He can't effectively do that anymore; because, of the progression of Parkinson's.

Why would you think that it was acceptable to go shooting on someone else’s property without permission? How much beauty is there driving through the smog and congestion of LA and it’s surrounding environs and it’s tough to have an ice storm in a wildfire, Year can even water your lawn if you want to

Yeah...whatever.

I will say this though, on my behalf. I believe I might just be insane! This is my fourth move to California.

I guess I must be nuts! :P:D:lol:

The South has oppressive humidity.   I lived for 8 mo's, 1969-1970 in Columbus GA & the summer's were like a sauna.  Best weather, mildest, in continental USA is San Diego.  Shirt sleeve & shorts weather almost all year; except May Gray & June Gloom.

Except for the 30 mo's I was Government Issue I lived in the East SF Bay Area.  At least until I retired at the end of 2012.  My desire to live else ware started in the late 90's due to changing political climate & increasingly crowded freeways.  This is sad for a 3rd generation Californian.  Besides the politics the cost of living is the reason I retired in N NV.  I can't name anything that costs more in NV.

No no no... Not "someone else's property."  Don't need to shoot on someone else's property.

Despite the congestion of the major metropolitan areas, California has 33 million acres of forest and 19 million acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land.  That's a lot of space.  Plenty of public land where one can shoot, usually within a reasonable driving distance of the cities.   ;)

I own a beach house in San Diego, and would not live there on a bet.
The crime is horrendous, the bums are even worse.
Traffic is ghastly, the cost of everything is higher then elsewhere.

Weather is truly wonderful, as is walking on the beach, and not having to fight for a parking place.
The boardwalk is dangerous to pedestrians due to bikes, skateboards, segways, and skaters.
My grandmother was knocked down on the boardwalk and died shortly thereafter.

Cops only come out for dead bodies or bikinis.
Crime is so high, they don't have time for much else.

Every square inch of the beach is overbuilt.
Around the corner from us, they put up a 16-unit apartment complex... with zero parking.  None.

Sorry to hear that.  The last time I visited San Diego was 20+ years ago.  17 & 15 years ago I drove through there going to & from Rosarito Beach.  The 1st time for a short vacation & the 2nd time to purchase outdoor folk art.

Wrongway and I find the crime, overbuilding, political climate and lawlessness of CA to be insufferable.
We are stuck here, so we make the best of it for our few remaining years.

San Francisco and Seattle are in a head-to-head competition to see which city can be more leftist. In the elections last week the Seattle city council re-elected one socialist and elected another, turning the city's politics even more to the extreme. Funny thing, both candidates were losing until all the votes from the wingnuts on Capitol Hill (which is where most of the Antifa types have settled) were counted.

Yeah I was following that race closely, I was convinced no way would they openly continue the admitted socialist policies....boy was I wrong.  And yes, like all races lately the candidates I want win the early votes, win on Election Day, and somehow lose after ballots  are harvested and manufactured.

When the businesses and money continue to leave, and their revenues shrink, they’ll continue they cycle of raising taxes to cover the losses driving even more out.  It’s a shame it could be such a nice city, too bad they cater to the drug users and homeless and not the businesses, tourists, and law abiding citizens.

That article could be marketed as a "diet aid."  It'll sure kill an appetite!  Cop-killer parents given life sentences for murder... then he was raised by the founders of the VERY radical Weather Underground... worked for Hugo Chavez...  promises to basically de-criminalize just about everything, and to close his personal emails with "In the Belly of the Revolution.

Wow.  This dude would have been declared 4-F by the Simbionese Liberation Army!

Darned good thing Ross Mirkarimi isn't still Sheriff ~ the city would likely reach critical mass and explode.

Glad I got outta that place when I did... back when it was just weird but fun and the San Francisco Gun Exchange - "The Firearms Center of the West" - was still prospering.   :(

We have moderators. If you don't like the thread report it. Sometimes it takes a day or two and I believe at least two people have to report.

Nope. Honestly, I really don’t care. My comment was more “thinking out loud” so to speak.

I only report things that are definite violations or definitely inappropriate. I think I have reported a total of 4 posts since I stopped being a Mod.

Being a Mod in this board was a thankless job that came with lots of bull s*** and negative experiences. Making the Mods unknown to everyone was probably a good idea.

Oh, yeah, Bottles, drinks are on Tyrel’s tab now. ;)

I'm in a good mood so Bottles can use my tab all day.

I liked California despite it’s oppressive political environment.  I left because of high State taxes, overcrowding, traffic, high crime.  I moved to Northern Nevada.  I love it here.  I miss some of my California friends, but the average folks are more friendly here, I love the rural environment, and the wild horses.

Being a mod on ANY group is a thankless job.  The best you can do is try to be even handed.  I tended, when modding on other fora, to give the benefit of the doubt, unless someone attacked the other mods.  They could go after me all they liked, but I would cover the backs of the others.  Of course, they did the same for me.

Re: Politics.  Unfortunately, with any of the shooting sports politics is intimately tied in.  There is bound to be some discussion.  Just keep it toned down.  I'm more tired of all the "well, you voted for them, you get to live with it" or "You should move" comments.  Sorry, but some of us can't afford to move (and can barely afford to stay).  And, no, I didn't vote for them.  I stand against them at every chance.

I do love the whining and whinging from people in other states that are seeing the creeping "californication" of their states as our politics metastasizes.  Think how bad it would be if every gun owner left CA and gave the antis free rein here, how that would embolden those in other states to push harder.  Don't even try to tell me "Well, it can't happen HERE" because we see it happening "There."  Give it a few more years.

Tacoma near to me just passed a law assessing an extra 25 dollar fee on firearm transfers and a per round tax of 2-5 cents.

Number of crimes it will prevent = 0

businesses it will close = dozens

jobs lost= dozens

alas, the areas around the city will perhaps gain some jobs as people drove outside city limits to purchase.  Really well thought out legislation.

I have been directly involved in the Tacoma dispute, have written to the council members (most of whom I know), and have testified (with dozens of others) at the hearings; the last one being last Tuesday, Nov. 12.

They passed the tax, but they amended it in two respects: one, they exempt the manufacture and sale of firearms components. This is directly intended to remove Aero Precision from the effect of the tax.

Second, they moved implementation six months back, from Jan. 1 to July 1, and have a provision that they will consider repeal if economic concerns appear to justify it. Whatever that means.

If the tax is imposed, it is highly unlikely that A-P will be affected. "Dozens" of businesses will not close, but 2 or 3 probably will. These are the small gun and ammo-only retailers. The biggest stand-alone gun shop here moved to a neighboring town a couple of years ago.

Aero Precision execs and workers turned out in force. More than 100 people in all testified against the measure last week, maybe 5 or 6 in support. Totally absent appeared to be the big sporting-goods retailers, including Bass and Big-5, both with shops in the city. My guess is that the big corporations are all going through a period of pusillanimity on these issues.

Just one person has to report.   It's basically a "hey look at this", because we can't read every post in every thread.  We have lives, jobs, and home "stuff", we rely on y'all to help point out things that 'tain't right.
