Question on Value of a real

I have a Pard who has a 1902 Winchester 1892 Rifle

( Not Carbine) in 32/20 .

I would say in about 80% condition.

Stock sights missing .

It has aftermarket front and older Winchester rear sights on her.

Very clean and shiny bore.

Tight smooth Action.

Good clean wood with one good old butt stock chip repair.

Nice pittena barrel.

He said he paid 800.00 for it a out 20 years ago .

He would sell it for 1000.00

PS. With a stock box of old 32/20 Ammo .

I think it sound like a fair price .

From what I see online it looks to be a fair price .

Any thoughts ?

I was told last week by a gun collector that you never over pay for a collectable gun, you just bought it too soon for the market.

That doesn't sound out of line for the condition you stated. I assume your search online included GB completed auctions.

Look at it this way; new Winchester 92 made in Japan sell for that or more and this is the real thing.

I was tempted with one that seemed too good to be true last year in the same caliber. While the dealer denied it, it looked to have been reblued, and they wanted $1400.

The old ammo can have value as well provided the box is in great shape. A friend of mine got an old box of Peters .38-40 in a trade with a Winchester 1886  in .45-90 and the box of ammo alone was worth $700.

If you like it, buy it. I promise you in ten years you won't think you over paid. If you don't buy it, in ten years you will wonder why you let it go. Will you be able to say that about a Glock or whatever darling plastic gun is favored right now?

I'd say that is in the ballpark.  Barrel length can make a difference,  but last old 92 I sold for 900.00 was in similar condition and that was 10+ years ago

I want to say its a 30" barrel .

But thats not forsure .

Its as long as a Henry I think ?

I just saw a used Winchester '92 yesterday in the same caliber. Based on the price they had on it you should run over right now and buy the one you're looking at. The one I saw was over $2,500!!!

I would recommend putting the words “Winchester 92” in the title of your thread next time. Those flag things are annoying. Just my thought...:P

Oh, and buy the gun if you want it. :D

I bought a 25-20, saddle ring carbine, must be 12 -14 years ago.  Barrel was in decent shape inside, decent bluing outside. Brown patina on the receiver.  Was dirtier than mom's garden. Switched the  butt stock for a shorter LOP for my daughter.  Kept the original to switch back to.  Paid $400 US dollars.  About five years ago the guy came back to me indicating that if I ever considered selling it, he'd like to buy it back.  I said if I did, I'd let him know but it would be at market prices which today would be around $1,000 to me.  Maybe a bit more depending on my mood at the time.

A Brazilian Real is worth a little less than a US Quarter. A Saudi Real is worth a littl more than a US quarter.

I also had that thought at first.

Flayderman's lists the 24" as Very Good $550 - Excellent $1,400

with over 1 million made, there were plenty of variants.  30" barrel is not listed, but could be had with a Special Order.

Fjestad lists the 24" at 30% - $875 up to 95% - $3,000

as in most old guns, condition is everything.

It doesn't look any different than the one here in Indiana for 2.5 times the price. I don't think you'll get hurt if you buy it.
