That Mossberg would have copyrighted the name "Shockwave".

I just got an email from Palmetto, and they are selling a "Shockwave pistol kit".

It's an AR pistol. How can some company call their AR pistol Shockwave, when Mossberg calls their thingie Shockwave?

It certainly seems that gun companies are an unimaginative lot when it comes to naming things. Shockwave, Hellcat, Loaded, Pit Bull, Rail Gun... and then they copy each other on top if it. Gun names are a lot less goofy if they're just a designation like P9, G22, AK-47, etc.

There’s more to a trademark than just letters (font, color, etc), and shockwave is a standard English word.

Unless the AR pistol company does something that creates confusion to the consumer, the word itself is a non-issue.

That might come as a shock to American Western Arms, who called their gun a peaceKEEPER, not a peaceMAKER, and Colt sued them anyway, and won.

"The name was too close. Customers would get confused, thinking they were buying a Colt PeaceMAKER."
