Only thing wrong with the French army in both WWI and WWII was their lousy leadership. The soldiers were a tough as nails and very courageous bunch who fought gallantly to their last breath even when the odds were so highly stacked against them. Like in Dunkirk and the break they afforded the British.
Cat Brules
The allies like to pretend that the French fiercely resisted Hitler, while in fact, they scarcely resisted at all. Their tactics were outmoded and their corrupt and political general staff was woefully incompetent. They had excellent tanks but were hampered by a lack of strategic planning. Individual units sometimes performed excellently. But as an army they were doomed from the top.
