LOL, ‘I’ll meet you then I’ll know you.’

Sounds like a starting line for a stage.  Will I have to wait for the beep?

Now come on Tom...you not taking credit for your actions?????

Well, you're accusing me of wearing tweed, I guess it's possible.  I'm not sure what tweed looks like, but I kinda think I've probably never owned any.

I don't know your wife.  Pretty sure I've never attacked her. Not sure why I would want to, if she's stayed married to you for long she must be a saint!  Was she injured during this attack?  Did I call her bad names at least?

You're coming to Georgia just to see little ole me!  Should I be flattered?  Will it be fun?

Sober up, tomorrow you'll feel much better.

In reality, I wouldn't slow down either.   The day I attend a match with 12" plates at 75 yards will be the

day I run a 10 second stage with double digit misses..... ;)

I think he meant 12' targets at 7.5 yards to be used with pistols and rifle. Also the shotgun targets are always down, just shoot where they were....

Actually I did shoot a match this year that had a 12"  75 yd pistol bonus target.  3 or 4 people out of about 80 or 90 actually got the -10 sec bonus.  I never analyzed it, but such a large bonus possibly did change some rank standing outcomes ocerall.

I couldn't even see it behind my SIGHTS, so it was kind of a non-shooting stunt for me.  But trying was fun, I guess.

BTW,  I did mean 75 yds, but I was trying to use an extreme/obvious  example to make a point.

Thx for reading it all the way through.  DDD

For most of us, slowing down wouldn't get us anything except more clock time plus the misses.

Off topic, but it seemed you disappeared from the Wire for a time, recently.  I do hope it wasn't medically related.

Hope everything's OK there.

Oh, I knew what you meant; I was just trying to inject a little humor into the thread.

We had a 75 yard target at one of our matches this summer. 9 shots on 3 rifle targets at about 7 yards, 10th shot at a target 75 yards away, misses at the long target could be made up with a shotgun target off to one side.

I like that much better than the 10 sec bonus I experienced.  The only penalty would be the aiming time and a second or two for SG make up.  But -10 sec was too much of a differential on one very hard shot, I thought.

Captain Bill and Phantom, this banter is beginning to sound like you are BFFs! :o:);)

Rainmaker, if I knew what you were trying to say, I'd probably be mad. You must be saying your dog treed a cat. Mine did too. Well it wasn't one of his boss cats and it ran.  It is the cat in the distance. His bosses are in the foreground ignoring him.

I think I do have tweed! I think he’s referring to this picture.  Is that tweed?

Dang Charlie I’m flattered. That picture is 8 years old. You must have really dug deep into my FB to find that. I didn’t know I was that important to you!

The idea of make-ups for the stages with what is considered more difficult target (s) seems to me the perfect approach to satisfy those who are in dire pursuit of a clean stage.  Make-up can be by shotgun, rifle, or both, just make the option target very shootable (large/close), and IMO,  it should be hit to make stage clean. I am not particularly a fan of make-up target that can be shot at but miss is not a miss.  Make it very shootable and time is the only penalty...again, my opinion.

Most recent CAC had a number of plate racks and 10" knockdowns, these were perhaps difficult for some, but options were most always given to make the stage one to be shoot clean.

Here's the actual stage description we used:

Nice.  I like the layout for make-up.

Only negative in make-ups of stationary targets is a good set of spotters to agree on make-ups needed in plenty of time.  Of course, good spotters are needed on all the targets.:D

Good shotgun shooter could easily appreciate this stage.  Shoot at more difficult targets with minimal concern and if miss on both then get two extra shotguns in less than three seconds.  Net not as clean as fast, hit-em-all run, but pleasing. If only one make-up, the fast 97 shooter might look pretty sharp.

Hey folks, you have to remember that Phantom is someone who went from "Socialist Anti-American California" to "Socialist Anti-American Austin Texas" and now is in "Socialist Anti-American Colorado", so his brain has been permanently warped with "I am always right, and everybody else is always wrong".

Gee, this topic is still going?  I only read the first page - are people still talking about clean matches?

When I started in '99, I shot 83 matches before my first clean one.  Then something like 84 more matches before my second one.  Yeah, targets were tougher back then.  But then it started getting a bit easier.  I'm up to 46 now (3 of the last 4) , plus 30 1-miss matches.  I'm getting a bit faster, finally breaking 30 seconds on a regular basis, but not gonna beat the fast guys so clean is a major goal.

Branchwater Jack, I had a tweed Fender Princeton once.  It had a penciled note inside noting a tube that had been changed in '53.  Got burgled from my garage apartment along with a vintage Gibson ES-150 many years ago.  I hate thieves with a passion.

Dang Abilene, I can't even remember my last clean match. Don't remember my first clean match and I'm in my 24th year. I know I've had a bunch but I don't keep track . Those clean match pins do add up, I gave one of the local clubs a hand full last year, figured they could just hand them out again. Clean is overrated.

Well Assassin, I'm a little OCD about some things.  I have a spreadsheet with a page for every gun, what rounds shot when, reloading page same, match page tells me what guns I shot in every match.   Some folks practice transitions and dry fire, I update my spreadsheet. :D

A little late to the party but thought I'd give my two cents worth.  I'm not a fast shooter but don't care to be (save that for those who like being 1st) and I'm not necessarily a clean shooter though I have been at times.  I just enjoy going out and having fun with great pards who enjoy the same game.  I'm probably the exception but I like all kinds of stages, don't worry if I get a "P" (which is rare) because brain fog happens to all of us.  I'd be more likely to get a "P" on every stage if we had to say the line exactly (I can't remember a line to save my skin) but there's always something that will pop out and hopefully bring a laugh or smile.   I have won in my category but when they announce my name I usually think they are kidding; I don't ever check to see who is in the category with me so I'm probably alone :D.

I realize there are folks out there who like to build their egos with difficult stages but sometimes folks perceive a stage as difficult because they have to think a bit more than they want to and/or are unfamiliar with a sweep name or terminology.  You must find your Vanna White to show the way through.

I just wish they'd put in more shotgun targets......

Just what is it about shooting clean that creates the euphoric feeling that's supposed to come over us when we all shoot a clean match?

When you're in your mid to late 70's & pretty well stove up it will become clearly apparent ... ;)
