Colorado Coffinmaker
A new USFA cylinder may well be problematic. You can however, fit a Uberti cylinder without much trouble.
TN Mongo, SASS #61450
A 2nd gen Colt cylinder should also work. .38 and .357 cylinders are not as popular with non-SASS folks. I have purchased several from Ebay and Gunbroker for very reasonable prices. One of my main match Piettas has a 2nd gen Colt cylinder after I had problems with the Pietta cylinder. I love VTI gun parts, but a new replacement Pietta cylinder was going to be north of $100. I found a gently used Colt cylinder for less than 1/2 of that on Ebay. You'll have to look, because the prices on Colt cylinders are all over the map, but should be able to find a replacement cylinder on one of those two websites. Good luck. Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
USFA and Uberti cylinders are not to Colt specs I too have had good luck swapping between Uberti and USFA
Three Gun Cole
Thanks for the heads up i’ll Look at a uberti cylinder see if it’s a match I think the early USFA’s used uberti parts I thought the later ones was closer to 2nd gen colt specs
Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
You are right in that early guns were ALL Uberti parts, when they started making their own parts guns were a mixed bag, later guns were all USFA parts dimensions ALWAYs were to Uberti specs
