Restaurant Challenged

I live in a little unincorporated town in San Diego County. For restaurants there is one very large, smoky casino with six or seven choices. I dislike the casino atmosphere and the air filled with cigarette smoke. We have two pizza places, one has great tacos on Taco Tuesday and the other one doesn’t believe in having anything with pork in their pizza, no pork sausage, salami, bacon, ham or whatever. Well we’re down to one now because the no pork pizza place owner was just arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual battery on some of the employees so it’s closed down.

We had a good burger/Mexican food drive thru but it’s was demolished and a Rite Aid is nearly finished there. The drive thru folks moved into a decrepit old restaurant that had numerous structural issues and finally gave up last winter when because of a really poorly constructed and maintained building it rained harder inside of the restaurant than outside. One other Mexican joint is a take out place in the back of a liquor store, foods not bad but it’s take out. Next door to the shuttered pizza joint is a grimy, dingy Mexican joint, I’ve eaten there twice in 27 years.

We do have a small deli but it’s pretty limited in menu options. For the last 10 years or so there’s been talk of new restaurants coming into town but it hasn’t happened.

@Yul Lose,

      I feel for you Pardner.

Best I can suggest might be to order from Amazon. :lol:

May need to get a bigger freezer though or invite several friends over.;)

When I lived in the unmentionable state west of here we didn't think anything about jumping in the car and driving 30-40 miles or more for a dinner out.

Now it seems like a terrible inconvenience to drive more than a mile or so.

I've gotten to where I cook at home a lot.  Hell, I can whip up a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios in almost no time and Stouffers has become my best friend for hot food.

Stouffers makes a dynamite lasagna, almost as good as my home made:rolleyes::blush:

Their French Bread pizzas are good too!;)

I'd rather eat my own cooking than eat out, but I get overruled  by SWMBO on a regular basis.  That said, Alabama football is secondary in this state to eating out.  And fish (meaning fried catfish, french fries and hushpuppies) must be eaten weekly, preferably on Friday night.

I stopped by my Scotch Spot 2 doors down from the pizza joint this afternoon and they told me that the accuseds soon to be ex is now running the restaurant, so we’ll see what happens.

It would make a long evening drive but Bell Buckle cafe in Bell Buckle TN is a great meat and three . Convenient to Wartrace where we will have the Tennessee State Match in two weeks. BBC is a MUST stop for out of towner cowboys.

We don't eat out as much Down Under as you folks (tend to) do.... but I am spoiled for choice here in Canberra when I do choose to....  (I think we have more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the country)     Within 5 minutes walk I have a great Chinese restaurant.  TWO Indian places...A take out chicken place which isn't half bad....and most recently...a Nepalese restaurant!    (That's different...but GOOOD)  Within 5 minutes DRIVE...well...into double digits for eating options then....   A longer trip will get me to Steakhouses, Turkish, Japanese, French, and even Ethiopian.... (really good BTW...and if you've read Wilbur Smiths book Cry Wolf you'll have read a very accurate description of the food)  BUT.... I tend to eat at home nearly all the time...  Rather spend on guns and travel.....lol

If the food was good, it won’t be now.

Once the wife sees the money coming in vs the money going out there will be changes.

I have seen this a few times.

I hope I am wrong. Not having many options sucks.

My little town of Molalla in Oregon had two Mexican places. One sucked, one didn’t. We had two American restaurants. One sucked, one didn’t. We had two pizza places. One baked, one didn’t. We had two Chinese joints. They must have been drug laundering fronts. They both sucked. We had a McDonalds and a new Taco Bell. You could here the sucking sound as you drove by...don’t like either one. Then we had two hot deli counters. One at Safeway and one at the corner gas station. Safeway’s chicken was okay. Otherwise they sucked too.

But there were 8 bars and 2 Pot shops. Probably in reflection to the crappy food choices. Food tastes better one one is inebriated or high...

Is it worse living in a town with no restaurants,  or living in a town full of restaurants where you can't eat cuz you're a diabetic.

I'm limited to bacon and egg breaksfasts, or steaks and broccoli dinners.
I have a tough time with going into a Black Angus for prime rib, and having to replace that loaded baked potato with broccoli.

;)

Black Angus has some good grilled Brussels sprouts. I have that in place of potato’s.

Santa Rosa has an amazing abundance of eateries.

Unless you're looking at paying 40 bucks a  person,  or more, plus drinks, most are just OK.

We used to eat out frequently, but the last 10 years or so, other than burgers or pizza every once in awhile, we have pretty much stopped.   We just aren't willing to pay restaurant prices for mediocre food.

There are a  few things that we will get as take out every 3 or 4 months like Indian/Nepalese or Chinese.

Your choices are awesome compared to Dove Creek! 1 cafe and a counter in the convenience store.
