I came home from that hot place. Some of my friends did not. Every day since then has been a bonus.

To ALL our fellow SASS Members who have served our Country,

that are either still with us, or have passed on I salute you for your service. :FlagAm:

The fact is, their service, in whatever capacity or campaign they served in, provided for our freedom.

I came home in August, 1969.  I really miss that place....................... kinda like Custer would have missed more Indians.

I was still 'in country'  with 1st Cav

We had some many guys from other divisions (the ones being pulled out) come to us.  For awhile it was a revolving door it seemed.

did run into and keep in touch with my RTO--small world at times

No, I was wounded in the engagement C Co. was in just before that.  John Poindexter wrote a book, The Anonymous Battle, about that engagement.

Seems we'd been tailed by some VC/NVA for about a week and then, lucky us, walked into a NVA base camp, got surrounded and had to have Co A, 2/8 and Troop A, 11 ACR  come pull our chestnuts out of the fire.   Came away with 3rd Purple Heart and Silver Star.  Took some time to heal and when got back to 2/8 was now in Co. B.
