At least you have one....  we're not allowed to, here in california.   :(

OK I’ll bite; not familiar with the present California laws— why is this gun not allowed in your state?

Hard to formulate a response to that.

Guns are not the most important things in my life,  but freedom is pretty high up there.  If Missouri passes a similar restriction, I will relocate.  If such a restriction becomes national,  I prefer not to publicize my response.

The only reason we are still her is the fact all of our kids and g'kids are within 50 miles of us.

My apologies.

Honest, I did not want to hijack the thread and make it a "bash California" thread.  It's just that it's so easy to do...

Those grips remind me of the factory grips on my old 1973 Ruger Mark 1 bull barrel.  I wish I could shoot it as well as it can group!

From Ruger's website:

Quote

Q - Why are there so few Ruger® pistols offered on the roster in California?

We at Ruger are committed to our customers in California. The problem is the microstamping requirement (described in another FAQ) in California. Because the California microstamping law is impossible to comply with, no new Ruger® pistols (or any other manufacturer's, for that matter) have been added to the California Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale since the law became effective in 2013.

Quote

Q - Why are Ruger® pistols that used to be available in California no longer on the Roster?

Pistols that appeared on the California Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale ("Roster") were tested and approved pursuant to the regulations in effect at that time. However, the California Department of Justice (CADOJ) requires us to submit firearms for re-testing if we make any change to the design, however small. If we change the weight, dimensions, or materials of a part, then that is a change that CADOJ says requires re-testing. As part of Ruger's program of continuous improvement, we routinely make changes and enhancements to our products. Any firearm that is re-tested must now incorporate microstamping technology (described in another FAQ). As this is not feasible, we cannot resubmit any pistols after we have made a change, and the pistol is dropped from the Roster by operation of law.

I know we all love Ruger, but their “excuse” is bull! They could have done as Glock did and maintained a couple of configurations “as is” to meet the laws and requirements at the time, just like they did with their LCP that is still on the roster.

Also, Ruger chose not to keep submitting documentation each year for models that they already had approved. They did not resubmit documentation and they made it known to dealers in California that they were essentially bailing out of California. Ruger makes it sound as if they constantly make changes on their website. They do not. That is just an excuse. Don’t believe me? Ask California gun dealers. Turner’s Outdoorsman, Riflgear, Fowler’s Gun Room, Rifle Supply, just to name a few.

If Ruger was constantly making product upgrades they wouldn’t have 79 revolver variations on 40 - 50 model numbers / variations. They literally have one “pistol”. The LC380-CA. It’s a basic LCR.

No worries J-Bar. I turned it into a bash Ruger thread. :D

At least I am bashing Ruger on their short sighted move to stick it to California. They just stuck it to loyal California customers.

Ruger MK trigger pulls can be improved.  I dropped the magazine disconnect and did some polishing on my MK III and ended up with a very nice 3.5 lb pull.

You could put your eyes out with that thing...one pull of the trigger and it’s curtains for your eyes as all those sparkles fly off. :o:lol:

Uh... Pat... the LCP definitely is not on the roster; don't believe it ever was.  You can only order one if you're a LEO.

And the LC380 is an autoloading pistol (larger than the LCP); the LCR is a DA revolver.

Remember ~ all pistols fall off the roster after five years and have to be re-submitted.  Doh!!  doh!.gif

The LC380 isn’t an LCP? Huh...I guess it doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t buy one anyway.

Ruger doesn’t need my money for the pistols.

I have an LC380.  It's... okay.  A milquetoast pistola, but literally the only thing available when I bought it.  I'm hoping to find one of the LC9 conversion kits for it.

I also have an LCRx .38 Spec.  No way did I want that thing in .357.  I will say that the sights are atrocious - it shoots low.  Very low.  The top of the front sight blade is literally about an eighth of an inch taller than the frame notch rear "sight."  It really wants a laser; on my Christmas list.

It may not have the bling of Smuteye John's pic, but for gun porn, I do love my S&W Model 25-5 revolver that I've named "Black Beauty" in a beloved cartridge most on this board appreciate.

J-BAR, it does get regular range time.  I just don't put it in a holster.  My 25-5 has the sweetest action; butter smooth double action and light clean single action.  A joy to shoot!!!!

No doubt!  I can say the same for my K-Frame .22s, .38s, and .357s!

An older S&W is a work of art.
