Words of Wisdom From Smedly Butler

Depending on which word or phrase history you look at, it could go back as a derogatory comment to the early 1800s.   I would, however, put that "quote" from later, say in the 1930s.
Another one, one that stands up to scrutiny, "
There are 40,000,000 men under arms in the world today, and our statesmen and diplomats have the temerity to say that war is not in the making. Hell's bells! Are these 40,000,000 men being trained to be dancers?" ("War is a Racket" 1935)

I was unfamiliar with Smedley Butler so I Googled him.  He earned two Medals of Honor.

If he did not really say this, he probably should have.

Also he won a Brevet Medal because at that time MOH was not being given to officers.
