It’s not like paintball in which some guys with cattle markers decided to make a game of it. Making a EXACT copy of real firearms that function exactly like real firearms is very important to them. The LGS that my wife worked at in the middle aughts branched out to include both Airsoft and paintball. Some of those Airsoft parts - handguards, stocks, a few other things, are interchangeable with the same parts on firearms. Same for some of the smaller caliber markers, about .43 inches I think.
