Red Eye Jim
Finally got my Dillon SL900 together and running last night and managed to make about 1/2 dozen shells but it is very persnickety. Of the 12 I ran last night only 6 look like they'll work. 2 are kinda warped and twisted in the middle, 1 didn't crimp right, but that was likely because I somehow managed to slightly crunch one edge as it was going in the wad/shot station, and I managed to crush and/or mangle 3 shells while in the first stage. Some of the things I'm dealing with: I kinda have to force the shells into the tube from the feeder. They don't just drop, and I'm noticing that about 1 in 4 (Of the few I ran last night as a test) didn't want to line up with the first stage, and if I wasn't careful would crush the crip against the lip (see above). (I figured out that I had to kind of watch and make sure the shell was feeding into the die straight. Also the wad holder bit needs a little help lining up into that gap, on the same mis-aligned stroke, and in one instance dumped shot all over the floor when I backed it up to figure out what was binding, but that I think was on me (it was like the second shell into the test string). One other thing I noticed is the center tube that the shot drops in is not exactly perpendicular with the arm. Is this all normal stuff I just need to tweak to fix or is there possibly something seriously wrong and I should call Dillon and have them walk me through how to adjust the damn thing until it's perfect? I'm asking here because I don't always do well when working with techs on the phone trying to explain things when I can't always remember the right words. I don't suppose there are any pards in the Portland OR metro area that are familiar with the Dillon 900?
