10mm Load Data for '10' maniacs.

Recommended Posts

Here is some interesting and maybe useful 10mm reloading data from recent test.

Not every reloading components were used for every pistol.   But it is a fairly lengthy

test with some good info.

Velocities were chronographed at an 8' measured distance from muzzle to 1st sky screen.

Pistols used were:

EAA Witness  Compact with 3.6" barrel

SIG P220 Elite with 5" barrel

Iver Johnson Eagle XL  with 6" barrel

Springfield TRP  with 6" barrel

Bullet weights were:

135 Nosler,  155 Ranier, 155 XTP, 165 Speer Gold Dot HP,  165 Sierra V-Crown, 165 Berry's Thick Plate, 180 SIG factory (V-Crown)

Load Data is shown in this format:

1.  EACH bullet weight will  have its own section.

2.  Powder charge info will be listed on the same line as EACH bullet weight/brand.

3.  Pistol .....  Velocity Averages ..... Muzzle Energy  (Energy was calculated multipling velocity square, times weight,

divided by 450,437.)

ACCURACY NOTES:

Although accuracy is a subjective thing, I will share some results based on the Target placed

a measured 8 yards from muzzle.

Listed are the best accuracy from the represented bullet weights.

EAA:  135 Nosler  16.2 gr of AA9.    Very Accurate.

165 V-Crown & 165 Gold Dot,  10.5 gr of Blue Dot.   Very Accurate.

180 Sig Factory V-Crown.   180 Berrys Hybrid HP with both 11.5 and 13.0 gr of AA9.  NOT Very Accurate.

SIG:    135 Nosler   16.2 gr of AA9.   AND... 13.5 gr AA7.   Very Accurate with both powders.

           165 V-Crown & 165 Gold Dot,   10.5 gr of Blue Dot.  }

165 Berrys TP  12.0 gr of AA7.                                        }  ALL of these were 'VERY ACCURATE'.

           165 V-Crown  9.5 gr LongShot.                                     }

           180 XTP  9.4 gr LongShot

           180 Berrys Hybrid HP   11.5 gr AA9 & 13.0 gr AA9

TRP:   135:  The TRP was a barn burner in speed, but accuracy suffered with the 135 gr. bullets

165:  The TRP was GREAT with EVERY bullet and powder used.   Really a Top Notch performer with the 165.

180:  I only had SIG Factory 180 gr V-Crown.  Its performance was sub-par, especially compared to the

                     165 grainers performance.

Iver Johnson Eagle XL:  Although we chronographed some load data, we were not able to obtain accuracy

results because the rear sight broke loose after we started shooting.

But, the pistol functioned flawless with all loads and it had The BEST trigger of all our test guns.

CONCLUSIONS:  I really like the EAA Witness Compact and I truly love the Springfield TRP 6".

The TRP is very controllable and its recoil IS NOT hard on the hand/wrist, even with top performing ammo.

If you're in the market for a good 10mm,  you need to take a glance at that TRP, either in 5" or  6".

Thanks for the update.  I found a box of 165 grain FMJ under a bench this weekend.  I think a few will get loaded this week.

Love my TRP 10mm.

Lawman Mark:  Your TRP has prettier grips than mine.

Mine are the greenish type but I will probably change them out soon.

If you got a good load that you use, please share.

Thanks
