bgavin
My wife is a new member, SASS #108884. I want to order her leather while the Kirkpatrick sale is in effect. She is a right-handed (only) shooter, and will never be doing cross draw. I assume this will be a left-handoff to the right hand. Yes, this is a time penalty for her, but she is here for the fun, not the clock. Allie Mo showed us her rig at a match (shown here) and says it works very well for her. To my eyes, it appears to be two cross-draw holsters, Left and Right. Q: are there any lady shooters with an opinion about a holster config? Red Cent
As long as the holsters don't break the cant rules, they are fine. And they are not necessarily dross draw holsters. IMO, those are very ergonomic holsters placed ergonomically. Standing in a surrender position, Allie can simply rotate her arms down and she will be aligned to the grips. She has had them made with more than a regular drop so she can wear the belt high. You will find hordes of the men wearing the same thing. The only difference is that the top of the grip will be higher. Double strong side isn't a penalty. Practice,...…...
bgavin
Allie tells me these are a Ted Blocker product called the "Dixie Bell". My bride likes these a lot, especially after seeing Allie's up close. The cant makes perfect sense. I have a query into Blocker to see if they will produce a rig in black, but with the heart conchos instead of the stars. If they will do this, I will get one on order. Sedalia Dave
Remember that some women are shaped differently than men. Several makers produce quality leather with this in mind.
Happy Jack, SASS #20451
Mernickle, Ted Blocker, and Kirkpatric all make belt/holster rigs with the belt contoured for the female body. Look before you buy. Good leather rigs are expensive and last for many years.
bgavin
Thanks! I looked at Kirkpatrick, not what we want. The woman's version of their LH09 rig is "coming soon", so they lost a sale. The Ted Blocker "Dixie Bell" looks to be what she wants. I gave up on Mernickle... the $4400 price tag on their front page put me totally off. I'm told Mernickle sold out, and is mentoring the new buyers. Same as investing in any company, when the management changes, the smart money backs out until a new track record is establish. The Original Lumpy Gritz
Have her try(in her shoot'n outfits)BEFORE you buy anydangthing. Trust me here-BTDT....... Have your wife get in touch with Allie. OLG
Happy Jack, SASS #20451
Bgavin, there is really no serious change at Mernickle. Bob and Sherri are staying on for at least a year to make a smooth transition. The new "owners" are long time leather makers themselves and do excellent work. You don't have to order $4000 dollars worth of spots and conchos to get a great Mernickle rig. I have 2 and neither went over $600.
bgavin
Sharon is already in touch with Allie. She is mentoring Sharon for leather and clothing. OLG: you are doing OK after the shake, rattle and roll?

bgavin
I looked over the Mernickle pages, not finding anything that really floats her boat, or mine. The Ted Blocker rig looks more to her liking.

She and my wife have won many awards for their outfits over the years. OLG

I can assure you we turn out the same great product that Mernickle has been producing for decades. We have even done some upgrades on some products as well. There are many great leather companies to choose from all different in there own way. However, if your waiting for us to prove ourselves all you have to do is ask. I can assure you the quality has not changed. H.Wolf
StirrupTrouble
I can vouch for the quality from the new owners at Mernickle. Just got my new rig a few weeks ago, and Howlin' Wolf did an amazing job and it performs way better than I do. And it looks amazing. Worth every penny and then some
bgavin
Thanks for the reply. I decided to go with Ted Blocker leather. One of my mentors has the Blocker "Drifter" rig and it does exactly what I want. Another of our mentors has the Blocker "Dixie Bell" rig, and it does what she wants. The web site catalog has a whole lot to do with making a choice. Kirkpatrick lost the sale because "coming soon" is not acceptable to me. I'm not a leather crafter, but I have spent my entire career in the computer and photography businesses. A high quality image is worth a thousand words.
