Msgtarmor
A friend of mine just bought a Winchester 1873 made in 1882. It definitely needs some work that goes beyond a good cleaning. So I told him I'd ask here about finding a good gunsmith.. Thanks in advance!! jim

Russ The Red
Pioneer Guns Works. No question about it. I shoot one of his rifles and it is a beauty. Very timely as well. http://www.pioneergunworks.com/
Jailhouse Jim, SASS #13104
Pioneer is a good place but doesn't work on originals unless their policy has changed. Parts are available if you hunt carefully but you may have to do the work yourself.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Run N Iron (Lonnie) does any degree of restoration on old Winchester rifles that you might need, up to a full rebuild to factory condition. They are in Bertrand, Nebraska. http://www.runniron.com/index_cowboy.html
Happy Jack, SASS #20451
I agree with Joe. IMO Lonnie is the best kept secret in Cowboy firearms. He has done some amazing work for me.
Msgtarmor
Thanks for the replies!! I'll give Pioneer Gun works a call and see if they are interested. I'm trying to keep it local but the guy in Nebraska sounds good if Pioneer don't work out. BTW, any recommendations for tutorials on how to disassemble one of these for a good cleaning? I should do that before I pass it along so I dont hand a guy a dirty as hell gun!! jim
