I mixed a Thistle Cocktail before dinner.

A waste of scotch if you ask me.

I'll have a Balvenie now.

I'm not Utah Bob,  nor do I play him on television. But

2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters; 1/6 gill of Italian Vermouth; 2/6 gill of Scotch Whisky. Stir up well, strain into a cocktail glass and squeeze lemon-peel on top. This cocktail is also called “York Cocktail”.

or

  • 3/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons orange-flavored vodka, chilled
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon Cointreau, chilled
  • 1 1/4 ounces Cynar (artichoke liqueur), chilled
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice, chilled
  • 1 lemon, cut into pieces
  • Ice cubes
  • Bitters

Place vodka, Cointreau, Cynar, orange juice, and lemon in the jar of a blender; blend to combine. Pour vodka mixture into a pitcher filled with ice. To serve, pour cocktails into martini glasses; garnish each cocktail with a dash or two of bitters and an orange twist.

or

  • 1.5 oz Cardamaro amaro
  • .5 oz Calvados
  • .5 oz Rye Whiskey
  • .5 oz Pedro Ximénez sherry
  • 2 dash Angostura bitters
  • .13 oz Lemon juice
  • Glass: Footed Rocks Glass

HOW TO MAKE THE THISTLE COCKTAIL

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir, and strain into a footed rocks glass.

Sounds like you take the last quarter inch of whatever 5 bottles are almost empty,  add bitters and ice.

No matter how you dress it up, scotch still tastes like dirty dish water.

PF

Not at all. Only crappy Scotch full of peat tastes like that. And even some very expensive Scotch can be crappy in my opinion.

The McCallan 12 year double cask is as fine as any smooth Bourbon I've had.

I used bitters, vermouth and Balvenie scotch. I forgot the lemon. Bu I seriously doubt that would have improved it.

LOL!  Men...we can't even follow important directions!

But, seriously, those all sound wretched.  I had found several others, none of which matched either the above or each other.
