Rough Childhood

Recommended Posts

I had a rough childhood.  Mom would read recipes for us at suppertime, since we had no food.

My little brother nearly starved to death before they figured out he was hard of hearing.

When I was cooking at the Fire Station  the smoke alarm  was just outside the kitchen doorway

My crew knew when the smoke alarm went off the food was on the table

The three rules for dinner were:

Make a lot

Make it hot

Serve it late

Well, my Mama could make a decent meal out of an old boot.  My parents set up housekeeping during the Depression and could stretch nothing into something fine.  When I married I really didn't know how to cook, but I knew how food should taste, and just went from there.  I can cut up a chicken.  My pot roast (finally) is almost as good as my mother-in-law's.  Just take a look at me & Petey & you know I can cook.  Meat & two, every day.
