I thought there was some previous disc on these but cant find it.

I am thinking of trying GF and thought these would be helpful with the bigger grip (yeah its a long bow but hay work with me here I want some more SAA).

I'd personally get an EMF Alchimista II or III. Not sure if the El Patron has the new retractable hammer yet, but regardless the Alchimista/Piettas are better and have the bigger grip.

And before anyone asks, yes I've shot gunfighter with an Army size grip Uberti , they're gtg, but I prefer the smaller Navy grip. I have M/S hands.

Absolutely agree with this. The Alchimista’s have the 4 click, wonderful Colt action, no goofy safeties, and EMF’s are great pistols. You can’t go wrong. And they have the 1860 grip for bigger hands and one handed shooters.

Unfortunately we cant get the EMF products here in Australia:( I had the local GS speak to the Pietta importer previously and they said no go.

Here in Aust its pretty much Uberti, Ruger and Pietta models (pistols) only. Even these brands have limited models available and we have nothing like Cimmeron or Taylors to do upgrades and smithing in bulk.

You pretty much have to buy whats available and then shop around for gunsmiths who will modify the guns for you. There are one or two Cowboy specialists (in the whole country) and you can wait quite a while for them to catch up and get to your needs.

EMF pistols are made by Pietta, don’t know if that helps you or not.

I did ask the Pietta importer to Australia if they would bring them in but the answer was no.

Even the base models can be hard to get, I ordered (and paid for) a pair of Pietta Yank .44's with a 6 mth wait. 6 mths later they told me it would be another 10 mth wait:angry: (they hadnt even ordered them as they didnt have enough orders to make it worth their while). Needless to say I cancelled the order and got my money back.

I have eliminator 8s which are piettas with 1860 army and I use them for double duelist. The 1860 army grip is amazing for one handed shooters. I can safely say I'll never buy another SAA with out the army grip unless it's a real colt

I have one Eliminator 8 in 45 Colt. I love the feel and handling of it with the long grip and low hammer.  Suppose to have been a new in box trade in. But it was a wreck.  I can't list all the work I did on it including turning the barrel to adjust windage.

The latest fix was stretching the hand to time cylinder rotation.

When I got it I started a topic that shows a lot of pictures.   Others have them and had no problems.  Others had them and had nothing but problems.  Cimarron has dropped then a couple of years ago.

They've archived my old topic on the Eliminator 8.

I have two pair of Pietta's with 1860 grip frames and lowered hammers.  I'm a gunfighter and I like these pistols so much that I bought a back-up pair.

I got both pair from Cabela's:   https://www.cabelas.com/product/F-LLI-PIETTA-SINGLE-ACTION-REVOLVER/1887308.uts?slotId=0

The last pair were less than the $399.99 list price (each).  My only complaint was that they have a transfer bar and frame mounted firing pin.  I am fortunate to have a top local cowboy gunsmith in my area and it was no big deal to get rid of the transfer bars.  He also tuned the pistols.  He commented that the pair I recently bought are some of the nicest Colt clones he ever worked on.

If you can get guns from Cabela's shipped to Australia, I would definitely consider these pistols.

I can't get the selection choices to come up with the 60 Army grip frame model.  It shows the picture but the descriptions and model does not match.

Warden,  the ones I have are SA73-1915/ LC.  Although they don't mention the 1860 frames, they have them.  They are the only ones that have the octagonal barrel and lowered hammer.  Both those features are mentioned in the description.

They popped right up when I clicked on them on the link from your post.

Yes, the picture and description pop up but I couldn't get it to come up using the ordering wizard menu to get a price.

This is what I come up with at the end of the road. It shows the picture but it's a different gun.

Sorry it didn't work for you Warden.  I followed it all the way to final checkout and I had no problem.  I did find one "fly in the ointment" when going through the order process.  I live in Tennessee; one mile from the Georgia line.  In order to get to the order page, I had to enter the store Georgia zip code.  When I purchased both pair of pistols, they shipped them for free to the Bass Pro in TN that's about 3 miles away.

The .357 pistol is item number 291457.  The only other Pietta cartridge revolver that Cabela's carries, to my knowledge, is SA73-1269.  That is a matte finish revolver with the regular 1873 grip frame.

If you're interested, it might be worth a phone call to check it out.

At our Cabela's, I always see the flat finish regular finish Pietta's, but I've only seen the 1860 grip frame ones twice in 4 years.  Both times, I bought the two that they had in stock.  Your local store can have any gun you want shipped for free from any other Cabela's including stuff from their gun library.

I normally buy my cowboy guns from local cowboy gun dealers, but the price on these was to good of a deal to pass up.

I understand what you're saying about imports being limited, (at best), into Australia... If you already have a pair of Uberti revolvers, if you can get hold of a pair of Uberti 1860 Army percussion revolvers, (or if someone just has the grip frames around) you could switch out the frames and grips onto your current cartridge revolvers.           If you currently shoot Rugers, no I don't have any suggestions for that... unless could grips alone be imported?  There are extended grips that mount onto the standard Ruger frame that might do the trick.

I have looked at this previously and it is "possible" thru a private importer.

Unfortunately you are looking at 2 to 2 1/2 times the price for each item:( (thats double the Aussie price for a similar item, not the USA price). That means for a Uberti Grizzly you would be looking at around $2,000 ($1400 USD).

I will stick to trying to get the Grizzleys and if that doesnt work maybe swapping the frames is an option?

Major,

I have a pair of OM Vaqueros and a pair of NMV that I have put Super Blackhawk grip frames on (the ones with the rounded trigger guard).  They come over-sized and you have to work them down with files and sandpaper, but otherwise they screw right on.  They are the size of an 1860 grip frame and I really like them.  I listed the link to Brownells below:

https://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/frame-parts/grip-frames/grip-frame-hunter-ss-prod18828.aspx

midwayusa.com also carries them.
