Shotgun Clay
Although some muzzle loading versions were made, the O/U as we know it is fairly recent in shotgun history. W.W. Greener in "The Gun" claimed to have made some, but there was little demand compared to SXS configurations. Woodward and Boss also made early ones, but being British custom guns they were pricey. The first popular and commercially successful O/U is probably the Browining Superposed, in the early 30's (started by JMB but brought to market by Val). But Merkel also produced them at that time.
