bgavin
I opened my brand new 1894CB, fresh from my California FFL. CA requires all guns to be locked for "safe transport". Apparently my FFL locked the gun but failed to put the key back in the box. I had to destroy a perfectly good Marlin lock by cutting it off my new rifle. I did call Marlin this AM, and they checked into it. Marlin never ships a gun with the lock installed. It comes in a separate package, along with the keys. The Original Lumpy Gritz
Only AW's and handguns have to be in a locked container. I'd be call'n that dealer, and be hav'n a firm word or 3 with him. He owes you a CA approved gun lock. OLG
Pat Riot
OLG is right. They just need to provide the lock. I would take it one step further. Look for any damage where the lock was and get some credit for it...asking for a replacement gun will just be a hassle.
bgavin
The lock components not shown in the photo is a heavy metal bracket labeled "MFC-10" with that black rubbery-dip stuff. It did a very good job of locking the rifle. Rifle itself is pristine. I'm 100% delighted with it. I found it heartily amusing, consider all the other rain falling in my life right at the moment... Oh yeah, I got one of those things with my Marlin when I picked it up recently. It's still in the box...where it will remain.

Sorry to hear that. Sometimes when it rains it pours. Just remember that all things are temporary, including the bad stuff. As for me, I'd probably cut off the Marlin just so I could re-use the lock! Joke 'um
Everything locked around this house has a Ruger branded lock. Tried giving away accumulated firearms locks on my gunshow table. No takers. When you can't give it away at a gunshow, you know what it's worth.
