Alpo
Two questions. I know that one pedal has a left hand thread, but I don't remember which one it is. Figure it's better to ask then to strip one by tightening more when I'm trying to loosen it. Which one is it? Question 2. The whole pedal/gear assembly go through a hole in the bottom of the frame and is held on with a large nut. Is this nut right or left hand threaded? Alpo
Another question, same bicycle. What's the cheapest and easiest way to remove rattle can paint from chrome plated bike parts? I received a used bicycle, and the purple painted wheels and pedal crank assembly offend my sense of rightness. Whoever painted this thing did not bother to remove any parts when he painted it. Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
The left pedal has left hand threads. as for the bottom bracket, the left side is usually right hand threaded. The right side is likely left hand threaded on any bike that you are likely to attempt servicing.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
easiest way to remember the pedals is to turn the wrench toward the back of the bike to remove them
Sedalia Dave
To loosen pedal hardware, when you put the wrench on the pedal shaft or nut turn it in the direction that would make the rear tire spin backwards.
The Original Lumpy Gritz
Most pedals are stamped 'L' on the end of the threaded stud for the reverse threaded pedal. OLG
