"The center is removed as waste."?
I thought that's where fence posts came from.
This is from a day when the center layers were made from a quality wood. These days only the outer layer, some times both sometimes just one have a quality wood.
in our forests we often find quaking aspen. The most cost effective thing to do is leave and let it rot unless there is a plywood mill nearby, then it is used as the inner layers of plywood sheets.
I watched a wood turner do this with it, he also makes lampshades.
this one is not aspen.
Interesting video, but still broke my heart to see the old growth brought down.
I've got my eye on a stand of popple and birch on my place. I'm told its good Vernier quality timber. Probably better have a pro look at it before it blows over. Lost some nice trees in the last couple years. Had a couple big cherry trees that ended up as camp wood.
