I looked up FLAK. I was curious about the origins of the word. I found this.

1000 ft/sec is an interesting simplification, better than getting involved with cosines of elevation angles and the 32 ft/sec/sec effect of gravity that nobody would have time to calculate anyway.

The origin of the word is correct. It’s German.
