Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Sunk in the battle of the Coral Sea in 1942, she was located by underwater R/V Petrel. I guess she was the only ship of her class. Perhaps some of the local sea jockeys would have more information.
Sixgun Sheridan
Yep, she was built with the extra tonnage allowed by international naval treaties, which wasn't quite enough to build another full-sized carrier. As a result she was smaller than the Yorktowns and VERY lightly armored. As tough as the Yorktown and Hornet were and how much punishment they took before sinking, the Wasp was another story and she was quickly dispatched by the "luckiest" Japanese submarine (so-called because her single spread of torpedoes not only sank the Wasp but the destroyer USS O'Brien as well, in addition to a hit on the battleship North Carolina). Four-Eyed Buck,SASS #14795
Lexington was sunk at Coral Sea. Wasp was sunk in the Guadalcanal area, after Saratoga had absorbed a torpedo hit elsewhere. Guadalcanal was very expensive in the terms of ships sunk or damaged. It cost us a ton of cruisers and destroyers in addition to Wasp and Hornet. Enterprise was also damaged pretty badly as well during the battle where Hornet was sunk
