How many pennies will be decided on which revolver. Blackhawk is definite possibility, my question is what do you recommend. I saw some Smith and Wesson's on gunbroker. Noz Posted March 12, 2019 Share Posted March 12, 2019 I have a Smith 657 and a Ruger Super Black Hawk Hunter Bisley and they are both very nice guns. Tough to make a decision which one needs to be played with the most. If it were a choice between the Smith and a Ruger Black Hawk, I'd go Smith. If you can find a Super Black Hawk Hunter, jump on it. I kept neither as it is one more caliber to reload for and store bought ammo is high priced and hard to find. I'd buy a .44 before I bought another .41, but if you have an itch, scratch it! Capt. James H. Callahan Posted March 13, 2019 Share Posted March 13, 2019 I have a NM Blackhawk 6 1/2" I bought for deer hunting and backpacking in bear country. Had the sears bobbed down to a perfect 2 lbs. Killed one deer with it, a doe at 20 odd yards, dropped her like a sack of concrete, found the 210 gr WW HP perfectly mushroomed in a lump under the hide on the off side. Can't go wrong with a Blackhawk, just have to have a trigger job to get anywhere near a decent pull. If you could score a 3 screw they're much better. Ruger are very good but often need trigger work. I love the 41 mag especially in the S&W 57 but it is an oddball and an extra caliber to load. I have the 44 Mag already. Other than 5 shots from the Ruger in a "shoot a different caliber every stage" stunt six years ago, I haven't shot either of them in fifteen years. Mebbe oughta sell 'em... twelve mile REB Posted March 24, 2019 Share Posted March 24, 2019 I own and shoot a Ruger Blackhawk and a Smith and Wesson model 57 in .41 mag both do the job I want them to do. The Blackhawk does the heavy lifting and the S&W does the fine work. The S&W can not withstand the punishment that the Blackhawk can under sustained usage with high pressure loads. I use the Blackhawk for hunting and or anything else that in my opinion requires top performance out of the 41 if I need more I go with the 475 Linebaugh. I like the Blackhawk over the Super because the trigger guard on the Super hits my knuckle in recoil and hurts. The S&W I originally purchased to shoot PPC and what a wonderful firearm it is, superbly accurate. I now use it for Bulls Eye once in a while and bowling pins. The double action trigger has been worked over and better sights but its a shooter. As I said they both do the job I want them to do but if I only had one it would be the Blackhawk if you feel you need more gun the Ruger 480 is just a short cased 475. Tuesday they called back just received shipment. Since they are kind of hard to find I told him order it. Friday I just stopped in to say hello and he walked up set it on counter in front of me.
