According to them, 90 people die each year because they weren’t wearing their seatbelt, most of whom are young men in rural areas. The confronting portraits are of 10 real-life crash survivors, whose post-crash injuries were recreated by the SFX make-up
Pat Riot
If they weren’t wearing their belts I guess their Indiana Jones courier bag must have gotten caught in something...or are they saying these guys survived because of the seatbelts? Check out the damage to their arms (makeup damage). I guess having your arm out the window is also a bad thing. Kidding aside, I always wear my seatbelt. I never used to and when CA passed the seatbelt law I was a shirker. Then I read about a guy who died in a crash. His family lost out on over $1,000,000 in insurance because the insurance company proved in court that had the man been wearing a seatbelt he would have lived. His family list out because of his selfishness. I decided not to be selfish and self centered and wear a belt. I have ever since. Same goes for motorcycle helmets and armor. I wear it. Alpo
That second picture? That coulda been me. 1977, if I remember correctly.
Yul Lose
I see drivers and passengers on a daily basis without a seatbelt on. Little kids standing up in the back seat are the ones that really get me, they don’t have a chance when the accident happens.
Trailrider #896
I always wear my seatbelt and insist anyone riding with me to do so. Until I bought a car that dings unless the passenger side fastens theirs, my wife never liked to do so. My only objection to the cross-chest part is that no matter how I adjust the way it fits, it would shred my carotid artery! So, unless I am wearing a heavy coat with collar, I tuck the chest strap under my left arm. Have I seen people escape serious injury? You bet! An Air Force comm truck rolled over with three airmen inside. In spite of having gone completely over, they were outside the vehicle, walking around when I got there (field supervisor). Belts DO WORK! FASTEN YOURS EVERY TIME YOU GET IN A MOTOR VEHICLE!
Stogie
In my younger days I'd only wear a seat belt when I was about to do something stupid. When they made it the law so I grudgingly abided. Then I got into racing and that really opened my eyes. Now after having a seat belt save my bacon twice (once on the street and once on track) I never drive without one. Ramblin Gambler
I really like how it's labeled "Ronnies' 1st wreck" Did she put that label on it before or after your 2nd wreck?
Alpo
Actually, that's my handwriting. I was having fun identifying pictures as I put them in the album. So far it's also my LAST wreck.
Dutch Wheeler
Many, many years ago, the State of Ohio had a very effective billboard ad campaign that made an impression on me. It was a photo of an Ohio State Trooper, standing next to a crashed car, and the bold text statement under the photo was: "I've never unbuckled a dead person"
