Supposedly.

I have a close family member in Southern California who recently attempted to buy a new rife.

All good, until he produced his driver's license.  He had moved a couple of years ago, and although he had filed an address change with the DMV and had the official card denoting the change, the dealer would not or could not accept it, as the address on the license itself was not current.

Guy makes an appointment, eventually goes to the DMV, and gets a new license in the mail two weeks later.  Returns to LGS; dealer still will not accept license, as it's not a "Real ID" version.  So now he had to first order an official copy of his birth certificate, make another appointment, return to DMV...

He hopes he'll have the new "Real ID" license by the end of this week.

Then, back to the LGS, taking his new "Real ID" driver's license, garbage bill, and Lord knows what else.

So... was the dealer correct, or acting prematurely in an overabundance of caution?  Doesn't matter ~ it's the image of what's to come.  And it's not good.

Does his DL have the federal limit warning?

Remington should have never sold any Remlins until they could consistently built a quality rifle.  I am sure it was management that were so eager to see a return on investment that they built-up huge negative good-will.  Almost in Yugo & Trabant territory.

Still-That does not change the facts about the sale of Marlin to REM, and the crap that followed.

Yes-I have mine. So does the Mrs..

That fed limit wording is what stopped the sale.

My other DL didn't have that wording but want the real ID.

Strange, you don't need any of that DL crap to have reloading components delivered to your home.

I think that dealer is just being overly cautious. According to the dealer I talked to over the weekend if your license doesn’t match your address and if your car registration does match you can use the registration and existing license to buy a gun as long as you have submitted an address change for the license. You can do that on line.

I have the real ID but I plan to take another form of address verification just in case.

Does this still apply to 80% lowers or Glock frames?

Can't really blame the dealer to much with the 'twists' that our DOJ throws at'em.

Just take a utility bill with you(address that matches with your DL) and you're GTG.

OLG

That's why I mentioned "garbage bill..."  ;)

For many years I've found it both amusing and disgusting that a California issued identification was not considered "official" enough.  But a garbage bill would "fill the bill."  doh!.gif

Bought the Marlin.

Marlin 1894 CB in .357 Magnum / .38 Special.

I bought it at Riflegear for $899.

I pick it up in March 19th - 10 day wait.

The ones they had at Riflegear had a better wood to metal fit. Don’t know why. It levered nicely but the trigger pull is a little tiny bit rough. They wouldn’t let me cycle dummy rounds in it.

All in all I am very happy with my purchase. :D

Can’t wait to pick it up and take to the range to see how it fires.

I am curious. Do you really think it will cycle .38 Special well?

I plan to load up some .357, not magnum loads along with some .38s to test it out.

Try your 38's at 1.500 COAL.

Won't know about the feed issue til you try it.

What bullets you using?

My wife's:wub: .38 CBC loves Bear Creek 158 RNFP 'slicks' with no crimp groove.

They also have it in 125gn.

I decided I want a new cowboy rifle. I would like it in .357. I want one made in USA. :FlagAm:

I went to the local toy store the other day for the purpose of looking at CAS rifles. I looked at the Marlin 1894 CB, the Henry Big Boy (steel) and the Winchester 1873. All brand new. I looked at the 73 just as a comparison to the other two.

Prices:

Winchester 1873 - $1,299

Marlin 1894 CB - $1,075

Henry Big Boy - $865

The Marlin seemed “Okay”. Levering was a little stiff but okay. The trigger had just a little hitch just before release. It looked pretty nice overall.

The Henry, when laid next to the Marlin was quite impressive in fit and finish compared to the Marlin. Levering the rifle was very smooth. The trigger was crisp.

The weight of the 2 guns surprised me. The Marlin because it was so light compared to the Henry. Probably by a half pound.

I compared the lever throws of the 2 guns against one another. At my shoulder I felt no real difference. When me and the salesman stood them on their butts and compared the lever throw the Henry had to go just a little further than the Marlin, maybe 3 degrees.

The Marlin had smooth wood and the Henry was checkered. The wood to metal fitting on the Marlin was poor. The Henry was good.

If I were a newbie I would have snatched up the Henry. I am not a newbie but I am seriously considering the Henry.

Why? Both are made in the USA. The Henry outshines the Marlin, big time, in a side to side comparison. The feel of the Henry is solid, perhaps due to the extra weight, but the action is much nicer.

Now, I know some of you will recommend I go with a 73 or a 66 slicked up by whomever but I have made up my mind that I am buying an American made gun. I have my Vaqueros (getting my original ones back from my son-in-law) and I still have my big ol stainless 7.5” .45 Vaquero. I sold my New Vaqueros. I like the “originals” better. They feel right to me.

I really do wish there were more American made options in regards to rifles.

Also, I wanted to mention that my goal in CAS has nothing to do with speed or being fastest. My goal is enjoying myself with lots of fine folks that like to shoot together and have a good time doing so. If I wanted to be a top shooter I would have pushed myself for that a long time ago. I am just looking for a reliable rifle to celebrate finally getting healed up enough to get back into the game. :D

I bought a Henry 1860. Im very impressed and would agree its light years ahead of my 1895. Wood is awesome!

The Marlin is a model T you need to slick up and upgrade. Which I have!

My only complaint with the Henry is no Kings gate. But thats not a problem with CAS. But it is a problem Bear hunting or defense of the camp.

I guess it all depends on your plans.

I bought my 1860 out of Cabelas used gun room in Post falls for 1100 bucks. I thought that was a screaming deal. A 73 is next on my list!

Howdy PATRIOT.

Welcome back and I think you made a good buy.

I agree with Lumpy on the OAL.   If your new baby is kinda 'slight of timing', the longer .38 special stuff should

be enough to overcome any slow timing issue.

Lumpy made you a nice offer..... take him up on it.

If there is anything I might be able to help with, give me a holler also.

Thank you Widder. I will.

I do intend to take Lumpy up on his offer. Might even bring him some Bulleit for his nerves. ;)

I plan to shoot it some and see how it goes but I can see it needs a little TLC. Heck, it probably shoots better than I do right now anyway. :D

Yul,

I told my wife what you said and I haven’t seen her laugh that hard in a while.

I asked her if she would mind me going “cowboy shootin’ “ on her birthday and she said “Go for it.” Looks like I will be at The Cowboys match. Yeehaw! :D

I would buy the (HRA)  Henry 1860 in 44/40  myself .

( if starting from scratch )

1. American made gun !

2. Its a 1860 ! ( The most beautiful lever rifle ever made )

3. It will say Henry and  made in America on it !

How can you go wrong with that ?

Paired  up with some  Old Vaquero's and say a Stevens 311 SxS shot gun .

WOW you would be 100% American made Cowboy Shooting . :FlagAm:

Just sayin .

Yes-

Also-get a couple of #10 AN washers in case you need to stiffen the hammer spring up.

Go with the steel FP.

If you have any feed issues-Look hard at the Ranger Point Precision extractor.

Just an added note. I saw that RifleGear had put the Marlin 1894CB on sale for $839.00 yesterday. I called them this morning and asked if I could get the sale price. They said "Yes" and gave me a $60 store credit. That's pretty cool. I will take the store credit. I need some more Glock mags. :D
