New Mexico: House Committee Hearing Abruptly Scheduled for 9AM

Recommended Posts

The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider gun control legislation criminalizing most private firearm sales at 9:00am this morning. Please IMMEDIATELY contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and strongly urge them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 8.

Senate Bill 8, so-called "universal” background check legislation sponsored by Senators Richard Martinez (D) and Peter Wirth (D), would ban almost all private firearms sales between law-abiding individuals. Gun owners would be forced to pay fees and obtain government approval before selling firearms to friends, neighbors and co-workers, or fellow hunters, competitive shooters and gun club members. This proposal would have no impact on crime and is unenforceable without gun registration.  As amended, Senate Bill 8 now requires that all federal firearm licensees perform these background checks.  30 out of 33 New Mexico Sheriffs oppose this legislation.

Again, please immediately contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and strongly urge them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 8.

Also, please contact Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham at 505-476-2200 or www.governor.state.nm.us/contact and tell her you OPPOSE Senate Bill 8!

Beside the fact that this is nearly completely unenforceable, it screams for the next step which would be total gun registration.  Without the latter, the former is impossible!!
