Dead Eye Jake
Anybody used any of the electronic earplugs? Looking for a set for my better half aka "Dee West". She has some hearing issues and would like to be able to hear conversations, especially the TO, and have hearing protection when the shot fires. Any help appreciated. Trailrider #896
Contact a board-certified audiologist. Be sure to explain the noise factor is from firearms. (If they are reluctant to discuss gun-related problems, find another audiologist!) I am NOT an expert, but have severe hearing loss in the left ear (right-hand high power rifle shooter in my younger day!). Right ear needs help, too, so I have VA-supplied hearing aids. The possible problem with electronic plugs MAY be the response time provided when the sound wave hits the sensor. I wear solid plugs, either custom fitted or the sponge kind off the range when there is excessive noise. When I step up to the firing line, I put on muffs in addition to the plugs. (Muffs fit okay over my military kepi.) I just tell the TO to make his/her commands loud!

Major BS Walker Regulator
I wear electronic hearing protection molded to my ear shape by an audiologist. They are called ESP's, Electronic Shooting Protection. Some of the best on the market but with a some of the best on the market price. Talk to your audiologist. Dead Eye Jake
Thanks for the replies. She was at the audiologist last week for a hearing evaluation and is getting hearing aids fitted and adjusted this coming Thursday. Maybe they can have a discussion concerning ear protection for shooting. Thanks again.
Grass Range
To be really careful I wear plugs and muffs over those also. I wear a western hat 100% of the time but a cap shooting so I can get the muffs on.
