Sam Masterson SASS#40954
So I went and bought a new Cimarron Pistolero to get back into this fun game and as a woods gun. Its been years since I had a good steel and wood gun (I like my combat tupperwear). What is the best way to clean the shipping grease off the gun and not ruin the wood? Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Use regular firearms bore cleaner to remove the manufacturer's oil and grease. Unless you soak the wooden grips in bore solvent, you won't hurt a thing! You will use bore cleaner periodically on the gun, so there's not really a need to buy some OTHER solvent to get the original rust-deterent lube off the gun. A thorough cleaning would have you pull the wood grips off anyway, so you can clean the mainspring and inside the grip frame. If you take off the grips first, you eliminate ALL worry about the finish being affected. Then, re-lube as needed for good function. A little gun grease on the base pin and cylinder bushing area will be most important. A drop of oil on the hammer sides won't hurt either. Good luck, GJ
Rafe Conager SASS #56958
Like Joe said, take grips off and clean them with Murphy's oil soap. Gets the oil off and protects the wood but doesn't leave them slick. A good bore cleaner or Windex with vinegar gets all the gunk off, then wipe with rag that has gun oil or wd40. The Original Lumpy Gritz
Spray it down with WD-40 and let soak for 1/2hr. Blow off with compressed air or wipe with rag. Oil cyl pin and have fun.......... Make sure all screws are 'tite'. OLG
Slowhand Bob, 24229
What about removing the grip panels and then dropping the rest into one of them Hornady ultrasonic scrubbers then lube as desired?
Ramblin Gambler
I shoot the grease off. Is that not the right answer?
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
3 hours ago, Ramblin Gambler said: I shoot the grease off. Is that not the right answer? Nope! This is in violation of all manufacturer's instructions that come with new guns! You will have problems if you try to "shoot the grease" out of the bore of several guns. At the very least, clean the bore and chambers on a revolver before shooting it. Greased chambers in the cylinder are asking for high impact back into the recoil shield.. Grease in bore may not blow a barrel in revolver, but it can sure do it in a high-power rifle. Good luck, GJ
