Back in 2004, Kamala was the new District Attorney in San Francisco. In the job less than a year she refused to seek the death penalty for a gunman that killed a cop and wounded his partner.

Not so stupid for she leveraged sleeping with Da' Mayor into the gig as DA then as AG.  That worked because Da' Mayor had been the long time speaker of the CA Assembly who ran for SF mayor when he was termed out.  He couldn't have run for a statewide office because of his high negatives statewide & if he wanted to move to DC he would have stepped on Nancy Pelosi's  toes.  Not a wise political move.

She just is an opportunist politician who happens to have a law degree & license.  Other than while working for Willie Brown's law firm I don't think she ever practiced law other than as a co-council or clerk.  All her SF DA & CA AG work was has head of a large department; i.e. all supervisory.  Her views on the death penalty haven't changed.  She wouldn't have been one of the top two winners of the primary for AG if she had stated her views on the death penalty; because, every time the issue has been on the ballot the death penalty has been retained.  I don't think the inmates under the Sacto dome nor mister Newsom would pass & sign death penalty repeal legislation.  They & the DOJ just sandbag death penalty appeals by slooooooooow walking them; so, there is a virtual death penalty ban.
