The following was adapted from an article published on NRABlog.com on December 19, 2018. The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program’s amazing year just keeps rolling! Not only did Eddie Eagle turn 30 years old and pass the milestone of reaching 31 million children in 2018, but 19 more Eddie Eagle mascot costumes arrived at their new homes with law enforcement this year. That brings the total Eddie Eagle costume count to more than 500 nationwide. When law enforcement agencies and schools teach the program, they receive free materials to use with their children. Agencies can also request to use an Eddie Eagle mascot costume and enhance their presentation with the presence of Eddie himself. These costumes can be loaned from program headquarters, or law enforcement agencies can apply for a grant from The NRA Foundation to purchase their own.  This year, The NRA Foundation awarded 16 costumes to organizations in 13 states: Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, Idaho, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Ohio, North Dakota, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi and Michigan. Additionally, three agencies bought their own Eddie Eagle costumes at the cost of $2,800. All of these new mascot costumes will serve their communities for many years to come, helping to teach firearm accident prevention to local youth
