Roanoke Rifleman, SASS #30256
Do parts such as a short stroke kit and firing pin extensions sold by different manufacturers that do cowboy race guns. work if you just install them in a gun that doesn’t have an action job. What parts help and what parts don’t make a difference.
Ace_of_Hearts
Short stroke kits, firing pins, etc all require fitting to the gun for proper operation.
Cypress Sam, SASS #10915
They work but you must adjust the timing and check the headspace. If you have excess headspace the SS kit supplier will send you longer links to compensate. It doesn’t matter if the gun is tuned or not, the kits still need to be fitted. Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
And, many "race" parts don't run very well if the action is still in factory rough condition. Springs are a real limitation in this regard. Speed parts usually don't run well if the springs are heavy. Folks swap out to lighter springs. Then light firing pin strikes and other problems occur because the springs are too light to overcome the roughness still in the gun. The best "race" jobs include the right speed parts, the right (lighter) springs and good cleanup of ALL the many rough spots and tight fitting parts in the gun. Good luck, GJ
