Johnny Reno
1 hour ago, Cheatin Charlie said: I never knew such a gateway inspection point existed in the USA. Never saw such a thing back east. The other interesting thing about California is that these agricultural inspection stations are anywhere/everywhere within 20 miles of a bordering state. They are in the most out of the way places in the middle of nowhere and staffed 24 hours a day for the most part. If the inbound highway comes from Oregon, Nevada or Arizona, you're going to go through one. I routinely drive through with my motorhome on the way somewhere from Nevada and they generally just wave us through when the see the Nevada license plates. They know any fruits/vegetables we have came from their state to begin with. But if we're coming in from Oregon, they stop us and question. When the pine beetle became an issue they started asking us if we were carrying firewood. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to expect they will start asking vehicles licensed in California if they have other contraband beyond fruits/vegetables/firewood. The CHP is routinely at the same locations so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
Dantankerous
What happens if somebody actually moves TO California from out of state and brings with them a lot of ammunition? Their intention is to become a resident of California. How would this be handled if discovered?
irish ike, SASS #43615
The Ag. stations current ask about fruit and vegetables, firewood as in unprocessed lumber, and North of Reno they will inspect brands if you are trailering livestock. As in does your paperwork match the animal. Yes rustling is still a thing. Checking for ammo and guns is the next step. Ike

Widder, SASS #59054
Many States have certain laws that can be considered Pro or Con, depending on the topic. For me, here in Tennessee, I feel we have a fairly good PRO GUN law. We can carry concealed or open. And we can carry any pistol, regardless of the firearm we may have used to qualify. And we have no restrictions on the number of firearms we can buy per certain time periods. And our purchasing waiting period is normally about 5 minutes..... really. BUT, I have been told that some folks find the OPEN carry offensive. Folks from other 'restrictive' states feel apprehensive when around folks who carry a pistol on their hip. Opposite of that is those States where some folks find the laws restrictive enough to never go there. Most of all those feelings for both examples given above can be attributed to a lack of knowledge. We hear (or read on the Wire) about restrictions in CA that alarm us to the degree we won't go there. At the same time, our CA Pards are trying to share with us more pertinent info about those restrictions to help ease our fears. If in doubt, double check all those laws and decide for yeowndangselves. Then enjoy your trip to CA or Arizona, which ever trip you decide to take..... ..........Widder

You want to support your pards in states with more restrictive gun laws, but you also don't want to end up in the slammer or with a criminal record because you violated a law you were unaware of. I would love to get out to Cali and shoot some matches. I've only been there once and it's a beautiful state. I think I would do some very careful research first to make sure I'm legal before I cross that state line. The same for NY, NJ, OR, and MA. Guest Texas jack Black SASS#9362
What would the problem be for those traveling to NY,NJ,OR,and MA. and now CA.? If you are a legal gun owner and follow the laws I see no problem. The traveler should always be aware of what could bite them and prepare accordingly. We need to support all our shooting Pards .
