Slap Happy Pappy #24722
I have some, (1000) 209 muzzel loader primers and was wondering if they can be used in regular shotgun shells for my coach gun. It doesn't say anywhere on the packaging that you can't.

Muzzleloader 209's are generally hotter than regular 209's, kinda like using magnum primers. Considering the lighter loads we use, I personally wouldn't have a problem using them. Three Foot Johnson
Muzzleloader 209's are actually supposed to be "colder" than standard 209's. IIRC, the reason a less powerful primer was developed was that a standard or magnum 209 developed enough initial pressure to unseat the projectile before the powder burn, leading to poor accuracy. About ten years ago, a shooter on huntingnet.com put this to the test by loading a patched round ball into a .45 cal rifle, with NO POWDER, and chronographing the average velocity of several 209 primers. Here's what he came up with -
Slap Happy Pappy #24722
That seems to be quite a difference. Know Anyone that wants some muzzel loader primers?

G W Wade
Wonder what kind of accuracy you would have shooting RB at 350+ fps GW
Slap Happy Pappy #24722
I guess I have a project for this week end. I'll load up 5 and give them a try. Worse case possible is either there is not enough power for them to work or they will knock me on my but.

It would have to be FTF, as you can't ship'em. The ones I ran in my SASS/CAS 12ga loads ran fine, and I couldn't see/hear/feel and difference using'em.
