7.65x53 ammo

Recommended Posts

I acquired a 1895 Mauser (small ring, cock on closing, no third locking lug) that had been sporterized.  After a bit of measuring, I determined it is most likely chambered in the 7.65 x53 round.  Does anyone have some empty brass or a couple of rounds they could spare for verification?  Bolt and receiver have different numbers so I need to check head space too.

Chamber casting is a pain in the tush.  I've measured the bore, I'll slug it before firing.  I've eased in a .308 case that had interference on the body just behind the shoulder-I'm fairly certain that it is the 7.65 Argentine round as that would be appropriate for the 95 action.

The two cartridges to my understanding are identical Bill.  It looks like I will need to buy a box of ammo to test fire.  Maybe I could save you a couple rounds.  Hope you are doing well.

HOWDY:

This is the 7.65x53 Argentine Mauser round:
Brass can be formed from empty .30-06 cases using case-forming dies. Bullet size is 0.313", but 0.311" or 0.312" diameter bullets will give satisfactory accuracy.
anneal the necks to avoid splits.
