Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
Began smoothing up a safe queen 336 in .30-30. Micro groove barrel, JM stamped and exceptional grain in wood. I've owned this for 25+ years and am now getting around to refining it. Question is: With a serial # of 260603xx, what is date of manufacture? Went to various Marlin owner sites and FAQ pages to no avail.

Barry Sloe
Is there a letter prefix to the serial number? 1948-1968 had letter prefixes. BS

Dutch Wheeler
Take the first two digits of the serial number and subtract from 100 will typically reveal the year of manufacturer of a Marlin. serial # of 260603xx 100-26=

Ser. # 408XXX. The barrel is marked black powder and the receiver has Marlin Safety Steel. Barrel and receiver have same look as for age so I don't think it is a mix match of parts. I have 2 other Marlins, an 1893 rifle and an 1894 rifle with both having 180XXX serial numbers and this site shows them to be made in 1899. Chili Ron
Howdy, Careful with Marlin numbers. The have restarted numbering a couple times. A friend of mine got cheated due to not fully understanding Marlin numbering. Im not saying anyone here is cheating anyone. Just be careful as this friend of mine was pretty knowledgeable and he got cheated. Good luck. Best CR
