Media Misses on Gun Deaths and Vehicle Deaths Once Again

I read the Vox article the other day, about 2018 seeing a rise in gun violence.

Then, when breaking down their stats:

94 school gun violence incidents-one would think we had 94 school shootings. We didnt. School buffer zones are counted (500 feet of a school) and almost ALL of these were drug related, outside of school hours-not on the property itself. Rather misleading.

39000 gun deaths, in 2016. Which includes suicides and justifiable homicides.  According to the tables referenced, 23,000 were suicide by firearm.  600 were justifiable homicides. 14,000 were were due to criminal activity.

Now, we can definitively say that criminal gun violence has risen. Despite tougher gun laws.

And, suicide by firearms is ALSO up-but, time the time between purchase of a firearm and suicide is 8 years, on average. Waiting periods are not effective in stopping suicides. And, honestly, suicide is NOT a gun violence issue. And shouldnt be treated as such.
