I have 50 cases that are cut-down 45-70, but would like a some more. I haven't worked up a load just yet, guy I bought it from used 28grn 4155 w/ 300 grn bullet. Pretty frisky. As far as loads get ahold of a copy of the 49th edition of Lyman’s reloading handbook—-has a section / article on reloading the 1876 Win giving loads for the 45 /60. I found I got better results using Jamison 45 / 60 brass than cut down 45/70. Yes, but all I could find was loaded ammo. Really just want the brass. But thanks for pointing it out! i did find a guy that 3D prints a jig for trimming 45-70 brass to 45-60. Having had the same rifle in 45-75 WCF in the past I knew that finding cases would be the sticking point. I opted for trimmed 45-70 cases. The 45-70 rims are thicker than the 45-60 WCF rims. In almost all rifles the bolt will not fully close using the thicker 45-70 cases. There are choices to be made. (1) Buy new 45-60 WCF cases at $2 to $3 each. (2) Thin 45-70 case rim to proper headspace. (3) Machine the barrel chamber face to 45-70 headspace. (4) Machine the bolt face to 45-70 headspace. I opted to have the bolt face machined (10 1/2 thou) as the other choices seemed to expensive or to tedious. Best wishes on your adventure. LG guy I bought the gun from included 55 trimmed 45-70 cases in the deal. they all cycle just fine. But if I run into a problem i'll look into machining the bolt.
