Dantankerous
The birthplace of freedom is now the death place of freedom? Something like that? Apparently... By themselves, "unlicensed firearms" is one thing and should not be any kind of a thing. In most free states licenses are not required to have firearms in this country. A loaded firearm? Big deal. Again no problem in most free states in this country. The amount of firearms? No big deal. Thousands of rounds of ammo? No big deal. A whole bunch of hype about nada. The gun hating media will always sensationalize what it A. Does not understand B. Fears. C. Hates. without remorse or any journalistic integrity. To the anti gun leftist media a box of 50 .22 shells means 50 dead kids. That's the type of mentality involved. No such thing a "high capacity weapons" either as quoted in article. Perfect example of anti gun speak and ignorance. Now, a Class 3 NFA weapon is entirely another legal issue. Manufacturing or possessing one without the proper NFA paperwork and tax stamp is a big No-No. Manufacturing supressors? Yup. A big deal. That can get you in a heap of trouble without the proper government paperwork and NFA approval for manufacturing these devices. Possession of a suppressor without the same NFA approval is also not good for the individual. I wonder why a search warrant was executed? Is that something normally done in conjunction with what he was charged? And to the ownership and use of surpressors... Hearing conservation attempt by using a surpressors is now insidious? Wow. Typical. Oh, and it IS an MSN article, so go figure.

Just for context: In MA: - We do not license firearms; we do, however, license owners, and it is illegal to own any firearm unless you hold the appropriate type of license; - MA does define "large capacity weapons"(not "high capacity" weapons), and "assault weapons"; remember, MA is the only state that continues to enforce (and exceed) the Clinton Gun Ban, incorporating it into State law; - All individually owned silencers are illegal in MA; no exceptions for sporting use or hearing protection. I agree wholeheartedly that the press routinely fails to act as a guardian of truth in these cases; they apparently are not concerned with truth or accuracy unless the target of the police action is someone whose politics they favor. Phantom Falcon, SASS # 46139
In a free country you wouldn't have the NFA either. If a cop can have a full auto firearm, I can have one too. The criminal will always have what he wants; only law-abiding folks obey gun laws. I have never had a firearm permit of any kind nor have I ever been licensed in any way for a firearm. I always laugh when Gibbs or other tv cops ask about permits. PF
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
How does a silencer make a gun “more deadly” (whatever that means)? It softens the report, but doesn’t silence, so therefore it’s “more deadly”?

StirrupTrouble
That reminds me of a story on the news years ago. Now my wife was raised in Chicago, and had never been around firearms before she met me, but she was still Pro2A. Anyway, we were watching the news and they were talking about the police stopping someone and breathlessly recounting how he had hundreds of rounds of ammo in the vehicle. All depends on the caliber and ammo, subsonic or supersonic. The 300 Blackout suppressed with 220 grain subsonic ammo is very quiet. Sometimes the action of the gun sounds louder then the darn near non-existent muzzle blast. 120 grain supersonic, not so much but tons better than unsupressed, especally from a 9 inch barrel. 9mm and 45 acp can be very quiet. Quiet enought no hearing protection required. 22 subsonic suppressed is a whisper. 300 Win mag supressed, well, still kinda loud. At least that's been my experience. In the movies it's not even a soft "pop"... just a quiet "pew" sound that no suppressed firearm I ever witnessed sounded like. Allegedly so quiet that a person standing in the hallway around the corner still can't hear it.
Sedalia Dave
My Grandson builds highly accurate custom rifles. Primarily for long range hunting. All of his personal weapons have cans and there is a can on any gun that either of his daughters shoot. He has a hard time understandiung how a person will spend seveal thousands of dollars on equipemnt and then whine line a little baby about the $200 that a tax stamp costs. Last I checked a basic pair of hearing aids will set you back at least $2500.00 plus at least $100 a year in batteries.

I can walk into any dealership and purchase a $20,000 car, equipped with a silencer btw... and leave with it that day. But a silencer bought over the counter at a gun store gets put in the safe in the back for 6-8 months till the idiots at ATF finally get to your paperwork and call the FBI and determine you do not have a criminal record. Around here one of the local gun ranges sells suppressors. If you buy one they will keep it in their safe while the paperwork grinds through the mill of beaurocacy. Until the paperwork clears they allow you to check out your supressor and use while you are at the range. When you are done for the day you check it back in. Makes the wait less painful. We have the same LGS here. It's only 10 minutes from my home and I visit them frequently. Still won't buy a suppressor till they are removed from the nfa. The bureaucratic delay that is the "tax stamp" process is just too much for me to accept. If they would rely on the instant background check system like any other firearm, I would have several by now. After all it is nothing but a dang muffler.
