1911 Bottle Opener

Howdy,

I remember some sort of write up about how the parts

of a 1911 can be used as tools.

And all you need to take apart a 1911 is a 45 round.

A long time back....

Yeah, in a fantasy world...I would live to see someone fully disassemble a 1911 with a .45 round.

Sounds like something from the same genius who said the sights on an M16A1 could be adjusted with the bullet of a 5.56 round.

Never worked for me.

I thought it was the magazine that was the take down tool.  And only for field stripping.

The case's base rim of the round is the screwdriver to remove the grip screws. ;)

On the mil-spec 1911, the part you remove-becomes the tool for the next part.

The lip of the magazine base can be used to depress the recoil spring plunger, and turn the barrel bushing for example.

The bottle opener trick, I first learned about it during my first class at Gunsite.........

I've done the tool-less disassembly trick with an old beat-up 1911 of mine before, just to say I could do it. I'd never do it on a nice pistol because there's too much risk in scratching or boogering up something. Always use proper tools...

BTW you can also remove the grip screws with the sear spring as well, but again like I said the chances of a boogered part are greater.
