Dorado Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Picture didn't work. Marrying your sister is never a good option though. Cousin's not any better...
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Do', I think y'all missed the punch line there...
Pat Riot Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Sounds mighty familiar...I do believe this poem originated near where I grew up. Or at least the gist of it...
Alpo Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 There's a filk song. The Starship Unity. The girl's father is the captain. She wants to get married, but every crewman she picks, Daddy says that's his son. "Bobby is fair and Bobby is bright, and wishes me to wed I said as much to Father, and this is what he said. 'I hate to tell you me darlin' girl, but it's the same old tale --- And considering what his ma looked like, I'm not sure he's a male.' Well Johnny is made of light and air, and rather hard to see At least he doesn't look as though he's any kin to me. I said as much to Father, and he said, 'Girl, mind your lip --- And never underestimate the captain of a ship.' Have you ever seen a girl in so sad a fix as this? If all me father says is true, I'll die a single miss. For each and ev'ry male on board is my own brother true --- I'll go and find me mother and I'll ask her what to do. 'Well straighten your antenna girl, and comb your hair so blue I've taught you that a Captain is a father to his crew. He's probably laid ev'ry female in the galaxy, but still --- He's not the critter that sired you Girl, so marry whom you will.' "
Crooked River Pete, SASS 43485 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 I heard it was an old Irish folk song.

All I had to work with was a broken image and "Hillbilly Love Story". It was either someone trying to marry his sister or his pig.
