Howdy

44-40 ..What a round, well for Cowboy & using real black, I mainly use 45LC with smokeless but have been using the 44-40's a lot more..yep I know bottleneck case, thin brass & all that but I'm amazed at just how clean my pistols & rifle are after a match..I don't know how long it is since I pulled the rifle [ Uberti '73 ] down it just stays so clean, the lifter block just stays clean  & shiney ! A quick pull thru & wipe over & back in the bag.The same with the pistols. [ OMV ]

If I had my time over I'd just use the 44-40's for BP & smokeless. I do spend a bit more time on the loading with the method I have but never have a problem with the ammo........

I had to do an edit to say I reckon the 44-40 with BP is actually cleaner than a lot of the smokeless powders !!!!

Yup!  I get home after a match and pull a boresnake through my .44-40 a few times and I'm basically done.  I run a q-tip around the carrier and bolt face to preserve form, but there's generally no need.

My Navy's on the other hand...  :D

We've equipped with 44WCF all the way around.   4 Smoke Wagons,  Marlin 1894CB , Marlin 1889, Marlin 1894 carbine, Winchester Miroku 73.  And a 1894 Century Limited that's a safe queen.

It's really frustrating that the 44WCF and 38WCF are of limited offering yet every style and configuration is available in 357 and 45 Colt.  I'd like to try Pietta stainless 5-1/2" with Colt action in 44WCF.
