The use of some words today in the news by some people...I thought those words were used in locker rooms or private talk...Most of the time done quietly...Today it seems some use them any where and any time...Have some sunk that low in the use of the words...What has changed...Was I taught differently...Maybe some were never taught...

Lack of a good vocabulary requires such words be used for expression.  When you see such expressions used it indicates the speaker is at best uneducated and at the worst stump dumb.

Noz, you hit on the head.  That type language also shows a lack of respect for yourself, and others.  Especially ladies.  We're from a different time.  Seems like our society is deteriorating.  Sad to say the least.

I think that I have a decent vocabulary, but I still use "bad" language. It's a combination of the Marine in me, and the desire for the less educated that I'm speaking to, (yelling at), to get my meaning.

Shop talk belongs in the shop.  The problem with common use of it is it looses the shock value and just indicates the ignorance of the speaker.  When I hear this and other misuses of the English language I know they either didn't learn anything in K-12 school or they were victims of poor performing schools.

Sometimes, the use of expletives or colloquialisms is a reflection of the contempt one holds for the individual that the diatribe is directed toward.

In the spirit of, “Cast not your pearls before swine!” I often resort to less than acceptable verbiage when addressing, or responding, to those who don’t deserve and/or wouldn’t understand erudition of higher caste.

(I hate to waste syllables OR my breath on 1d10ts or @$$#•£€$!!!)      B)

I confess...I'm a car swearer.

I avoid bad language at work, at home and in social situations.

But put me in a car, especially in Boston traffic, and I am unmuzzled.

It's almost as if swearing was designed for this situation.  There simply is no effective equivalent.

And it's cathartic.

Just don't raise your hands while doing it - especially if you're Italian.

One word -- RESPECT. There is a severe lack of this today. Parenting has gone to hell in many areas. Small town America is still hanging on by a toenail.

Sadly in many families the parents are not raising and teaching their children, they are being taught and influenced by the culture in which they live.   In such families a very few of the children will rise above it but in most cases they are absorbed into the culture and finally down the sewer.

I cuss like a sailor but only in situations where that behavior is acceptable...to me and to those around me if those around are

a.-deserving of my diatribe.

b.-close makes friends / co-workers.

c.-in my car or on my bike.

I do not swear in mixed company or around “ladies”. I will cuss around women not worthy of the term “lady” as I do believe in equal rights (they demanded it) and I will go toe to toe with anyone that chastises me for cussing in front of one of these women. Women cannot claim equal rights and then expect extra rights from me. They do not deserve it and any man that allows this is a Pansy and needs a good cussing too.

Now, how do I know I am amongst women that are not ladies? I can be in a room less than a couple of minutes and I can spot them in short order, but if there are “Ladies” present I defer to the respect for ladies I was taught as a child.

As for newsies and assorted talking heads, it seems it has become the norm to be a ghetto - white trash influenced moron to “connect with da people”. Or to act like children trying to get away with something to be cool to the other kids. Yet again the pre-school generation shows their true talents.

I have solved that problem. I get my news from the radio and internet.
