A New Club [ Update post 30 ]

Recommended Posts

Howdy

              Hopefully I will have a new club only 25 mile from home, a lot of applications, paperwork & to much to mention  but at this early stage it's looking good. Our gun laws suck in Australia & starting up new ranges is a 'whole lot of work ' !!!

Anyway Cowboy will be part of the club so trying to come up with a name & seeing as you guys & gals are good  with an alias I thought I'd ask the wire.

A few hints................

                       Langtons road in  Esk [ a small country town ].....in the state of Queensland.

                       Situated in  the Brisbane Valley not far from  an area called Ravensbourne

                         Lot's of Hills

                        Plenty of deer

                       Cobb & Co stage coaches were around  in 'the ole days ' [ not actually there but not far away ]

Is this for the whole club or just the Cowboy portion?  Langton Rangers, Cobb &Co  (just like that- unless there is a problem with copyrite on a defunct company), Green valley cowpokes, (Im on a roll) Queensland shootists,   more later

Howdy,

How about using "Brisbane Valley" then choose :

Regulators = BVR

Rangers = BVR

Wranglers = BVW

Posse = BVP

Cowboys = BVC

Because of the less than positive opinions of firearms in your country, you might want to avoid names like Shootists, Vigilantes or Outlaws. I dislike PC consideration but some times it's better to let a sleeping dingo lie.

Brisbane Valley Station Rangers or Regulators

Queensland’s Rangers (bureaucrats love the mentioning of their “realm” if the name has to be approved by the government)

Cowboy Paradise between Goombungee and Dongaree:D

Redbank Creek Bounty Hunters

Captain Logan’s Rangers (not sure this would be received well)

Eskshire Hills Marauders

The Queensland Quarrel could be the name of a shoot

The Quarrel is how half the Queensland team werent born in Queensland:P

Just checked our names in Australia...there are Rangers, Regulators & Cowpokes so looking for something different to those.

Really like something to go with Esk ****************

P.S..Must admit 'Redbank Creek Bounty Hunters has a good ring to it...thanks Pat Riot

Esk Shire Sharpshooters

You could modify the old Shire of Esk logo and use it for the club.

I vote Langston Rangers.  But then I would.

I would be obliged to visit sometime of course  :)

Good luck with the club.

Just an update & a bit of a story.

The club had there own range & when the owner of the land passed the family wanted the club gone., that was 5 years ago .

Up till now members have shot at another club  but still kept Esk going. [ Actually correct name is Brisbane Valley  ]

Now with a new president who is a farmer he has offered land for the club on I think a 50 year lease.

As we have recently moved to the area I heard they may have new land so I went to a meeting to find out more & a mate & I put  forward the possibility of Cowboy, we were warmly received.

In Australia  there is a stack of applications & $$$ to get a new range up & running.

Neighbors are checked for there responses..all good there. [ mind you they do have to be legitimate negatives ] Next are sound tests ranging from .22 up to .300 mag, this cost ..wait for it $ 9,000 [ this was also successful ]..now it is lodged with a consultant who then makes application to the council for approval..this fee [ council & consultant will be  around $ 15,000. ]

Once application is made our major shooting body S.S.A.A  [ SPORTING SHOOTERS ASSOCIATION AUSTRALIA]  will hopefully  come good with approx $ 30,000 to help with establishing the range.

We have what is called weapons licensing in every state who not only control registrations of guns & shooters licenses but also approval of ranges, so there is a whole raft of work to be done there with templates, fall out zones, berms etc [ & a lot of paperwork !!!! ]

I am presently a member of another club but when I know for sure everything will go ahead  [ I am confident ] I will join Esk & endeavor to get Cowboy up & running.

As you can see its time, work & money..applications for licenses is on a steady rise all over Australia [ weapons licensing cant keep up !!! ]

I probably jumped in early for a name for the Cowboy section but as I said I'm confident things will pan out.

You have to apply for the different types of shooting to be approved for the range so everything possible will be applied for.

So far names  [ or parts of ]that have stood out are

                                                                                               Bounty Hunters

                                                                                       Esk    Sharpshooters

                                                                                                Raiders

                                                                                              Esk Marauders

 Redbank is down the road a bit so I swayed off Redbank Creek

    I do like 'Esk Valley Bounty Hunters'

Would like to have a name that does not contain regulators , rednecks, rangers or renegades  as already some in Australia [ yeah I know I'm picky !! ]                            Appreciate your input so far..Regards 'Painted Mohawk
